Help me gun shop FUD from today

Stopped at Fowlers. Looking for a long gun to buy. Was told I need one piece of government ID and TWO utility bills or other government ID. I told him, hey, it's a long gun, I only need one utility bill plus one government ID. He said no. Told him I'll be back later.

Did something change in 2010? I can't recall if I bought my LCR in 2010, but I don't recall any changes.

Maybe it is a store policy? I usually bring a few things JIC.

Yes it is. It's been ahile since I bought along gun, so I did get confused. I know you need the residency prrof with a handgun, but TWO for a long gun?

So, screw it, I'm not going back there. Didn't like the price they had anyhow.

They also illegally charge $35 for the DROS.

That I knew. And one more reason not to give them opportunity to sell me something. (who knew trying to find a Henry Big Boy would be so hard)

Store policies vary...it sucks, but it's just the way things are...all you are legally required to have for a long gun is your valid CA DL/ID, or military ID with home state ID and orders to a duty station in CA.

If your CA DL/ID has an incorrect address, then you are required to have some form of supporting documentation from a government agency of your current address.

since you DL has your current CA address on it, you don't need any proof of residency in order to comply with CA and federal regulations.

do they claim that all $35 are state fees, or do they indicate that the $10 is a dealer fee (like Turner's does for its $5 dealer fee, making the total $30)?

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Nope. It's actually on the receipt as "DROS: $35". That's it. No extra fees or anything.

They are doing EXPLICITLY what the law says you cannot do, and that's advertise the total DROS fees as anything other than $25.

I know another shop that charges 35 for the DROS but they have a sign in very small print posted so high up that you can not see it clearly which states the extra 10 dollars is a dealer fee and not a state fee. But they don't specify this on the reciept.

If you didn't know you would think that 35 is now the current DROS Fee. Told them that it's 25 what gives they tried to lie at first and said that was the old price, but after some back and forth words they admited it was a dealer fee.

You can guess I didn't purchase anything and never will if they have to milk a extra 10 bucks and lie about it.

Just take another utility bill, pay the extra ten bucks and buy your rifle. It's not that big a deal.
It wouldn't be a deal killer for me.

                              Not the point.

The LAW says one piece of current ID is all that is required. The LAW says no more than $25 DROS.
