Anyone ever mount their rifle to a tripod?

I have a Lafette tripod, I lost quite a few parts over the years for my 1919 build, there is not a significant interest in my tripod to sell. So in order to utilize it, I was thinking of mounting an ar to it, and I have a couple bolt actions as well. ( at different times).

May something like a tiptman rifle vise for the bolt actions? or some other mount? maybe grab the magazine on the ar's? to be used just for plinking @ buddy's property.

What's the benefit of mounting vs. just resting? Are you thinking about field use for this?

I know some hunters out here who use a camera tripod for their guns......

        Mount, no.
        Used as a rest, yes.

Kind of like Bruce Jenner, but the rifle still has a bolt.
