Thanx for all the advice guys
Instead of a smaller cartridge, What about a bigger gun? Looking at the Taurus website I see several .38's with four and six inch barrels weighing around 36 oz. Just a little extra barrel and forward mass can go a long way to reducing recoil in a .38 special.

I would not recommend trying LRN for defense, you might want to look at:

I have a similar load for my wife's S&W and she thinks its ok.

Is there a 38 ammo that has less recoil than the hollow point type ammo besides custom reloading which I dont have the time or inclination to do.
Is there a way to make the front sight be more visible in low light conditions?
Looking for a laser grip for her gun if I can find one cheap enough.
She does not liek the gun at all and i rather try some different ammo and maybe a laser sight before I go and spend more money on another gun.
I tried selling the gun but the buyer backed out with some BS reason. so Im trying to keep from just wasting money if I can. She liked the Ruger 22 she shot at her training class but the few I looked at were overpriced or already sold.
          Thanx for any info

          Rob,

Have your wife try the lightest grain 357 magnum you can buy. I think you can go as little as 110 grain. If not for sure 125 grain might be better.

I too also suggest you try mag na porting. Mine has a porting system and I consider it number one an well spent money.

            +1

Ported guns are far from ideal for personal/home defense.

Your attacker is within 5 - 10ft. You have two options... hold the gun in a normal stance and basically hand it to him, or pull back with your strong hand and extend your weak hand to keep the attacker away from your gun.... At this point, you are firing from pretty much under your nipple.
            Powder burns aren't fun.
