Any suggestions for an alternative to a chrony chronograph?

My unit works, but the sight window is so small I have hit a post once, and a diffuser once. Trying to shoot a scoped gun through the area at 16x is at times a little tough.

Parts are also extremally expensive, and shipping at $9.00 an order for less than an ounce gets a bit old fast.

Are there any units with a bigger window I could shoot through?

dude, honestly, the chrony series is one of the best bangs for the buck. Also, due to their nature, these things don't usually have large windows like you desire. The ones that do can be REALLY expensive. Seeing as one always runs the risk of shooting the chrono, I would keep what you have.

I want a unit made in the US that won't whack me $20.00 for a 5 cent piece of plastic

True, they are flimsy, but they aren't meant for tough use. Trust me cheap is the way to go. They give accurate readings. If they didn't I would not tell you to stick with it. You don't want to be that guy that shots his expensive chronograph. lol. Trust me, that is not covered under warranty.

You didn't mention budget, but I replaced my Chrony (still working with a couple of nicks and several drops) with a CED Millennium 2 and love it. I haven't shot mine so I can't tell you replacement, but it's easy to setup and use.

I know a lot of people like Chrony's, but IMO and experience, I don't like them at all.

I now have an Oehler now and love it. If you don't want to shell out the dough for an Oehler, I'd get a CED.

Here is what I do to keep the shoots down the middle. I use little LED lites in front of the uprights and the module.

Make sure no lite in the scope and you won't hit it.

I figure out my velocity by shooting at various distances, recording what the dope is, then play with the numbers in JBM until the dope matches what JMB says, viola, accurate MV for my needs.
