The Gun Shop in Lancaster, experiences?

Going to be getting a friend a 1911 and found The Gun Shop in the arfcom Google Earth file. Talked on the phone with Dave just now and he seems pretty chill. Anyone ever been there? Goddesses? *******s?

I go there frequently, and use the indoor range. It's not bad, its a bunch of old guys there, and sometimes their attitude is hit and miss. One day real friendly and the next day grumpy. They have a pretty decent selection of guns there, their prices are a little hit and miss. It seems the more popular stuff that is there, they sell for top dollar, but my Black Stainless 1911 Springfield was a hundred dollars less then every where else I looked.
I have'nt done a transfer there, but I've bought 3 handguns from there in the last 6 months, and it seems like they are just learning how to use the computer.
They don't have anything OLL there, but they do have the CA bushmaster there. Overall its a pretty good store, whatever you do stay away from the Santa Fe Gun store thats 6 miles down the road. You are pretty much guaranteed to leave from there mad.
If you are not outraged you are not paying attention!!!

I'll second the stay away from Santa Fe Guns, the troll that owns the place needs to crawl back under his bridge. You can also try High Desert Storm, always had good customer service there. It's in Palmdale on Q, numbers (661)265-0101.

Agree. I use the range at Lancaster Gun Shop quite often, and the staff are generally helpful (though I think Janie's sense of humor - if that's what it is - can be a little misplaced.) Their gunsmithing service can be somewhat slower than they estimate. Used them for some private transfers and they were fine.

I have shopped at Santa Fe Gun Store, and might go back, but it would be my last stop locally as I didn't like the atmosphere much. Did buy my Ruger Mk I and a Savage 110 there, they had what I wanted in stock and their service was OK. High Desert Storm is also good, bought my Ruger Mk III there and they happily rescrewed the (hi-viz) front sight over and over (with Loctite) until Ruger admitted that the screw was too short and replaced it.

I knew there was a gun range there! Must be a pretty silenced one because I didn't hear a single peep.

Thanks for the info on Santa Fe by the way. I knew from what a friend said that there was a good one and bad one in Lancaster or Palmdale.

I'll thirds or fourths the "stay away" from Santa Fe Guns in Palmdale! The sawed off runt/midget/troll there is a real SOB!

To me, when I walk into The Gun Shop, it's like a tomb in there. All dimly lit and a few grumpy old guys behind the counter. I usually go in there to look at the old surplus rifles on the rack in the back or else buy a few reloading supplies when I don't want to do mail order. Never bought a gun there. Never used their shooting range after hearing all the flack that they gave people about what ammo is/isn't allowed in their range. It's worth it to me to drive down to the Target Range in Van Nuys and not go through any flack about what ammo/gun I'm using.

Ditto on High Desert gun shop. Jeff and Sandy Storm are great to deal with. You might also want to check out Karl's Hardware in Rosamond, about 10 minutes north of Lancaster. Eric, Tom, and Don are also great to deal with and they have a pretty good selection of guns in the back of the store, even though it's a hardware store. I've bought alot of my guns from Karl's Hardware.
