Shot my first precision rifle tactical match!

We headed out Friday around 11am went to a dry lake bed near Jean, Nevada to check our zeros and headed into Vegas. It was awesome! I shot my first mover and was one shot short of cleaning up they're steel stage. 220-650 meters. It was set up as two pieces of steel on opposite sides of the same berm from 200 out to 500 then one shot at 650 yards. I also shot my first mover target at 550 yards It was sooo much fun! Even though I didn't get a single hit on it lol I came in 11th place out of 28 if I would have gotten at least 5 more hits I would have came in 5th lol

Lets make like a baby and Head out!

    Vegas match

Vegas range paper targets are at 330 yards 650 yards is a small berm out to the right. Truck is at 550 fixing the mover

After that we headed out to Paulden, Arizona for another match on Sunday morning this match was at GUNSITE! First time AZPRC (Arizona precision rifle club) has been allowed to hold their match there. Didn't do so well in this comp(LOTS of very experienced shooters) but a lot of people also didn't do so well. Everyone's dope was off and it got windy making impacts pretty difficult at least for me. Even thought I didn't hit as much as I would like to have liked to hit I noticed all of my misses were off by a mil at most not bad for someone who has never shot in the wind under a strict time period(5 seconds between shots). There was 4 stages at Gunsite (By the way Gunsite is HUUUUUUGE and also VERY nice) and the thing that made it different I was told was that as opposed to other matches where the steel is white/red/orange/yellow on a square shooting range, The targets at Gunsite were painted in a camo pattern to match their surroundings and were placed all around a mountain side. (VERY COOL) The wind didn't help much either. We were grouped up with the storm tactical guys http://www.stormtactical.com very cool people! I came second to last in this comp but had a BLAST and learned a lot and now know what I need to work on.

The sign of GREAT times ahead

This was after the match in stage 4 targets

This was probably the highlight of my day (Being in Cali I have never fired a suppressed weapon before (let alone one of such high quality) This is a .338 lapua in a prototype ashberry (sp?) stock. It is currently being tested by SOCOM. MSRP was said to be at around $9K for the rifle alone. Hornady was nice enough to donate the ammo for this rifle $98 a box 20 rounds per box. My first shot was a hit at 1,000 yards (I still have a boner)

Me adjusting the dope on this sexy beast before taking my shot

Moral of the story I AM HOOKED!!!!! I will try my best to make it to as many precision rifle tactical competitions on the west coast as humanly possible from now on. Met a lot of great people and I look forward to seeing them again. Thanks for looking guys, Stay safe.

oh and Randall you are THE **** man! Thanks for bringing me along, answering all my questions and helping me out I greatly appreciate it!

Do you realize that weekend is going to cost you more than your vehicle is probably worth?

Nah I don't want a 338 lapua If we could have suppressors in California then maybe. I just want to shoot a **** load more matches and improve myself. Oh and build a dedicated custom .243 competition rifle.
