    Just to be sure

It looks like there may be a divorce brewing up for me. To protect the rifles I wanted to transfer them to my 18 yr old son. he will be 19 in feb. From what I understand i should just document the long gun transfer with a bill of sale.Does it need to be notorized? Is there a limit to the amount of long guns I give him. If he still lives in my house do I need to move them to another location. He is not prohibited from owning firearms. The pistols will not be transfered.

Yes he is from a previous marriage. I was divorced 15 years ago and got custody of both kids. The current marriage is going on 12 years. I didn't think I could transfer a pistol to him till he was 21? I know that if the pistol is transferred I wil need an FFL.

As long as your son is 18+y/o, you can through an intrafamilial transfer. Read this.

If any are C&R you can "sell" them to friends with only a bill of sale(dated last year or so). Others can go to son/brother/sister/dad but do the state paperwork and the small fee. Date those sales in the past also and up to now. It looks better in court/arbitration. Get them out of the house(in case of a restraining order) as well as ammo/reloading/bayonets.

This way when/if the cops so up at 1AM in 3 cars to take your guns and even throw you out of your home you can tell them drop dead about the guns. Do not worry about the threats of turning them or selling them within 24hrs since you will not have them. If you have a regestered "assualt" just take it out of state as you cannot guive/sell it to another here. BE SURE to get prices on your bill of sales. You had to sell to support her and pay bills.

If you need more help contact me as I have learned alot about this and have expierence......trust me. It has been 3.5 years and $34000 in lawyers.......BUT I have all my firearms(and daughter) and only paid her for a few that I should have done different with.

You might help your son set up a nice two bedroom house/condo/apartment to rent. Maybe for him to use while attending college? You can sign on the lease to help him afford it if needed.

Existing Support Obligations can be helpful. And it could serve as a place for him to store his new guns. Potentially as a future residence if you decide to relocate.

Setting up a place for my son would be nice but the College is only 15 minutes away from us. I have a shooting buddy that will allow me to add a safe to his gun room for my sons guns. Plan on getting a safe soon to move everything. As close to a C & R I have are the two M-1's. Besides the EBR they are all hunting rifles and shotguns. I'd hate to lose my SKB. Its my purtiest gun. I think I transfered the long guns last September maybe August. LOL
Thaks all for the support. I'll keep everyone posted if something harsh happens and I'm sure I'll contact a few of you if I have any specific questions.

Just in case. Go get them valued and be sure they know you want a low value for a divorce. I can give you a name if needed. You should try for 2 places as that will help. Be sure the second sees what the first valued them at. You want them close but low. That will trump anything she may try to get.

But they are not yours to start with. So use the values as a last resort. "Sell any C&R(the M1 etc) to your friend. Best not all go to son.

To give your son your guns, download this form, you may need more, I think 3 guns on each form, send 19 dollars for each gun. Yes you can give him handguns but he will need a handgun safety certificate.
To get them back when the storm blows over, do the forms again.
Your c&r long guns can just be handed over to him and back to you when it is time. Good luck to you.
This form is for handguns only, I don't see one for long guns, you might want to call doj to see if there is a different form, do you need to go through this, since we don't have to register longs in california?

That form is only for handguns. The fee is $19 total for any number of handguns. Intra-familial long gun transfers do not get reported at all, even for modern long guns.
