    3 Gun

I watch most of the Three Gun Nation shows on Versus channel, and it seems like most of the same faces are in the finals, at least for the tour. There are so many shooting experts and teachers doing shooting for hand gun, carbine, and shotgun, I would like to see some of the bigger names out there get involved and see how they stack up against guys like Taran Butler and such.

Anyone else feel the same about the core group of finalists, and wanting to see more big names in the shooting business compete?

Are you talking about trainers going up against the best 3-gunners in the world?

Sure. I see so many training classes with guys showing a resume of years of tactical this, and training that, I would like to see some of these trainers compete.

Taran's not the youngest, fastest, thinnest, or in the best shape, but he is very quick and accurate when he shoots. These trainers have enough trigger time, skill and time behind the gun, and should make a good showing, I would like to see some of them on the circuit.

In classes that I've been in, accuracy (A-shots) is not so much an issue as it is "getting lead downrange and on target." You're also wearing a lot more gear than the average 3-gunner.

Although I can't say that these tactical trainers are not "accurate," but accuracy in 3-Gun is a HUGE factor and those who shoot it strive for both accuracy AND time.

I believe both worlds, although easily blurred, have different degrees of acceptable performance.

Your idea of seeing the two worlds compete would be an eye opener, though.

There's nothing to keep them from competing now. In fact, I think some do.. Magpul's Haley shot USPSA, 3-Gun and even Cowboy according to his bud, Robb Jensen. The Tigerswan guys compete too and isn't Vicker's a Master-class shooter also?

Honestly, I'm not sure trainers would do that well compared to someone who shoots competition/3-gun regularly. Remember Top Shot when JJ went against Chris in the dueling tree? Chris is a damn good shooter but he was out of his element. JJ destroyed him. I think it would turn out like that. But if it were a slow-fire precision contest, I think it's anyone game to grab.

Killing bad guys does not translate to killing steel and paper. Even on the local stuff I have shot it is evidenced by guys who will take a 1 second hit on a missed target to win. I will take 10 seconds to hit everything I can. I train to kill bad guys and threats to my family, not care about how fast I can make holes downrange.

Like Nite said, lots of skills cross over but the defining parts of each are no where near close.
