    New to the game!

Hey guys I'm new to this forum, and absolutely new to the whole firearms scene. Looking for a California Legal AK47/74. Found an AK-74 at atlanticfirearms.com. http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct923.aspx

Wanted to know if its a good buy. What are the pros and cons. Any better Aks out there? This one uses the 5.45X39 ammo. Any place that sells these types of ammo in Socal that are NON-steel Core. Angeles Shooting range (which is close to me) has a restriction on using steel core ammunition. Dont want to buy a gun and have a hard time finding ammo to go shooting.

Also mailed in my Personal Firearms Eligibility form today Express Mail. Should be eligible, no felony cases. How long do these usually take? Website states it can take up to a few months.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Looks good but it seems kind of pricey to me...I'd go with a 47 instead, much more ammo options.

If you are limited to non-steel core, then do not get a 5.45x39mm AK.

All the inexpensive 5.45x39mm ammo is surplus military, which makes it steel core and corrosive.

Non-corrosive, non-steel core 5.45x39mm ammo cost the same as 7.62x39mm ammo and 7.62x39mm ammo is easier to find than 5.45x39mm ammo.

Thanks for the replies! I do not like the wood on the ak-47 for sale at atlanticfirearms. Any Aks you guys can recommend? What about the AR15 rifles. What kind of ammo do those use. non-steel ammo easy to come by here in Socal area?

Get a Saiga SGL21 if you don't like the wood option...New Frontier Armory and Personal Security Zone both ship to CA..

The rifle Atlantic has is basically a Saiga SGL31 with some aftermarket upgrades..

Saiga 7.62x39, then go to Dinzag arms and hop that sucker up. The Saiga is a bulletproof platform to start with. I own one, never had a problem. Good quality for the money.

I have seen Yugo ammo 7.62x39 as low as $199 for 1250 rounds. Yea I would say thats cheap. Brass case, lead FMJ. No Steel anywhere. Just do a search for it.
