Can ya'll settle an argument for me?

Hey guys, new member here. I joined because I would like to settle some questions I've had about CA law.

My dad says you guys/gals cannot have any semi automatic weapons as of a couple months ago.

He also says that all semi auto handguns must have a magazine safety.

    Any truth to this?

    Thanks in advance.

the semi auto gun part is a load of @#!$%@#$%@#$

the mag safety is probably true, the "handgun roster" is restrictive on what will be added

grandfathered guns are still on it

As parsed in the OP, no on both counts.

          Neither is correct.

I'll bet there are more semi-auto rifles in this state than in any other state. AR/AK is just as popular here as anywhere else.

Please note this argument started over a magazine article in shooting times. I guess one of the writers said a few new laws had been passed/were going to be passed outlawing any semi auto weapon (long gun) and any handgun without a magazine safety. Any body know of this article?

                No; semi-autos are perfectly legal.

Handguns - semi-automatic ones, anyway - need a magazine disconnect to get on the Roster. All the guns on the Roster on December 31, 2007 are exempt from the magazine safety/loaded chamber indicator requirement, and may still be sold. See the Wiki article.

I suspect that one needs to read the article more carefully. I don't find anything like that in the online Shooting Times site. Perhaps you could search and find the article in question.

all the magazine safety is,is to prevent the gun from firing while a magazine is not in it.
