quick question to settle an argument. what are the legalities of carrying a firearm in a car? does it have to be in a locked box or is just a gun lock i.e. cable lock ok? also if the gun is in plain view in a car i.e on my dash is that legal as long as it is not loaded? and if i have a gun rack in my truck is it ok if i put my rifle in it and drive into town as long as there is a lock on it?

gun in a car question
-John McClaneThat punk pulled a Glock 7 on me. You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. Dosen't show up on your airport X-ray machines, here, and it cost more than you make in a month.Tags: None -
As long as you never entered a Gun Free School Zone, you could have an unloaded firearm setting in plain view on the dash or on the seat next to you with the ammunition sitting right next to it. If you travel through a school zone, the unloaded firearm and ammunition must be in a locked container. The firearm and ammunition do not have to be in seperate locked containers. Trigger/cable locks are not sufficient for school zones, it must be a locked container.sigpic -
Best practice is unloaded in a locked case. Ammo can be anywhere but in the gun.Comment

"a gun lock i.e. cable lock" has no use at all in following PC 12026.1 or 12026.2, unless it is used to securely close the completely enclosing container that holds your handgun.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment
