    7.62x39 weight?

I was wondering, how much does a case of 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 weigh? The reason I am asking is that I have a 5-gallon bucket nearly full of the stuff and am trying to figure out about how many rounds that is. Or, alternatively, if anyone has experience with having a 5-gallon bucket full of 7.62x39, how many rounds does it take to fill one up?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Hahaha, sorry I just find this funny. I don't know why. Just start shooting it!

Just weigh one round by itself, and then weigh an empty 5 gallon bucket. Multiply the weight of the lone round by 1000 and ad the weight of the bucket!

The reason I ask, is I am thinking about selling/trading the ammo off. I would like to be able to give prospective buyers a ballpark figure of how many rounds I have.

horrible, horrible lies. I only have 700 rounds left, a hungry AKM to feed, and I'm but a poor, downtrodden college student who had to put his gun budget on hold to buy a car.

So yes, I do need that ammo

Well, I just put my scientific method to the test. I weighed out one pound of rounds, came up with between 30 and 32 7.62x39 rounds per lb. Then I weighed my bucket and it weighed 75 lbs. I figured a couple of pounds for the bucket and the stripper clips that some of the ammo was on. So 73 lbs. X 31 rds./lb. = ~2263 rds.

What would be fair market value for this (including bucket)? They are a mix match of surplus steel cased stuff, mostly look like Russian surplus (green case, tiny HP). I would say that 99% of this stuff is shootable, every once in a while there will be a round with some corrosion on it.

well that depends on what brand bucket you have. is there a lid? is it airtight? what color is the bucket? what brand is the ammo?

lol, well I love sonora and I've been thinking of going up there for a while.

If y'all dont want to make the trip up for the ammo (yeah right ) I'd be down for some shootin fodder. I've got four hungry AK's and a mess of SKS's and nought but two K of ammo between them....
