    CCW (sweaty) while exercising?

I take power fitness walks at night. More and more I face sketchy (sometimes even very sketchy) characters no matter how I change my route. I thought I might apply for a CCW and purchase a Kel-Tec PF-9 for my own protection now that I am not able to run well due to a bum knee.

I wear a windbreaker when I walk so concealing the firearm isn't a problem. Getting it soaked in sweat every time I walk is a concern. Can anyone here suggest a special holster or perhaps another solution other than spending time after each walk stripping/wiping-down down the pistol? I was thinking of a zip-loc bag but that might be a little slow in an exigent setting. Thanks.

Um, that plastic bag is no match for a bullet...

    Fanny pack? Pocket holster?

My experience is that no matter what you do to protect the gun it will always get wet from perspiration if you use any inside the pants holster. As your sweat evaporates it will find its way to your gun unless it is fully encased/sealed, but that makes it tough to use in a hurry as you noted. Hip holsters that stand off your body a bit don't seem to have a problem, but are more difficult to conceal.

If you find a way that fits the bill please post. Short of that a regular cleaning and lubrication job seems to be your best option short of switching to a Glock or similar type gun.

The only thing that you can do is just maintain your gun. My piece gets looked at daily and then broken down once a week for lube.
CCW firearms get sweat, dirt, lint, etc... all the time. They need more attention than a safe queen.

Would a Glock be more resistant to sweat than a Kel-Tec PF-9? They're both polymer handguns... As far as a holster, I would just want a very simply chest or shoulder holster. Something made out of webbing/synthetics that ideally could be thrown into the wash. Maybe have two of them and change them out.

I realize the zip-loc bag is weak from a speed standpoint, but I wonder if there are cases that are designed to protect firearms in this sort of application that can simply be fired through?

I wonder if the daily check could be little more than wiping the pistol with a dry paper towel and then with a silicone/Ballistol impregnated gun cloth?

As this conversation carries on, I think it should be moved to a different forum. It has nothing to do with 2nd Amendment Politics, or Laws.

My check is the cycling of snap caps to verify smooth operation of the components. Then my gun is wiped and put back in the holster.

The slides are still metal which can rust. Although, you could get a handgun made of stainless steel.

Honestly I have no clue what the corrosion resistance/reliability is of your piece. I do know that I have never paid any special attention to my G30 and it rides everywhere with me rain or sweat it is there, and never a sign of corrosion or failure. It gets no special attention in particular.

I'd go for the fanny pack holster. But thats just me. I do think fanny packs look kinda dumb to just wear around but I'd wear one running, you could carry your keys and a water bottle or cell phone in it too.
