    1911 and a red dot?

I just bought a springfield trophy match. I plan on using it for Bullseye. It seems that a frame mount rail system works best. Any opinions or comments regarding this matter would be apreciated.

The most commonly used red dot for Bullseye is the UltraDot. Either the 1" or the 30mm version. They are great sights. They hold their adjustment and can handle a lot of recoil.

Here's the 30mm version on one of my Model 14s:

When I was shooting bullseye, just about everyone in our club used slide mounted Ultradots. The Clark mount was used by just about everyone. The Clark uses the same hole pattern as the Bomar rib. Brian Zins, the Camp Perry national champ used slide mounted red dots. If you use a slide mounted red dot, you need to adjust your recoil spring and perhaps your mainspring for the added weight.

I have a slide mounted red dot on my .45 and a fixed red dot (not mounted to the frame, but it doesn't cycle with the slide) on my .22 rimfire. The slide mount takes a little getting used to, but once you've got timing down, it works well.

Here's a link to the Clark site. http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/bullcon.htm#heavy

The Premium Bullseye has the frame mount.

The Optical Heavy Slide as the slide mount.
