AR-15 1:9 twist, I've been told that was a great twist ratio for 55 grain surplus ammo. I haven't been finding good prices on 55 grain so what is the heaviest grain I can go with ? Is 62 good to go?

What's good for my twist?

62 is fine. I'm surprised that you're finding 62 cheaper than 55 though.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

62 is good to go. You might even be ok with up to 75 grainers. Just no extra long tracers for you.Comment

Thanks for the good info and the leads to the sites, Here is a dangerous question, picked up a spare AR-15 16" barrell told it was 5.56 but it is has no markings, no stamps, nothing. How do I find out what the twist is and if it is truely 5.56 or .223 ? ( I tried counting the twists in the barrell, I got dizzy)
