    What's good for my twist?

AR-15 1:9 twist, I've been told that was a great twist ratio for 55 grain surplus ammo. I haven't been finding good prices on 55 grain so what is the heaviest grain I can go with ? Is 62 good to go?

62 is fine. I'm surprised that you're finding 62 cheaper than 55 though.

Buy a .22 conversion if you want to save lots of money. Otherwise I'm pretty sure 55g ammo will be cheaper than 62g..

62 is good to go. You might even be ok with up to 75 grainers. Just no extra long tracers for you.

I've shot as light as 45gr and as heavy as 75gr out of 1:9 twist AR. You are gtg with 62gr!

Here, get some PMC or Prvi and you're set.

I recently picked up 1000 rounds of 62 g and it was $20 cheaper than the 55g at SG ammo sales.

The 1 twist in 9 inch barrel was designed for 52 to 69 gr. bullets. Your good with 62 graniers.

Thanks for the good info and the leads to the sites, Here is a dangerous question, picked up a spare AR-15 16" barrell told it was 5.56 but it is has no markings, no stamps, nothing. How do I find out what the twist is and if it is truely 5.56 or .223 ? ( I tried counting the twists in the barrell, I got dizzy)
