Fire it and watch for the slide speed. Too much weight taken off may cause the slide to move too quickly, which could cause frame battering and other potential problems. Any functioning problems, especially erratic extraction/ejection would be an indicator.

Ask who did the work. If the seller did, and he's not an experienced gunsmith, walk away. If he names a professional, search around and check their reputation. $75 more will find you a good condition, unaltered G17RTF (there've been a couple here on Calguns, I just snagged one). If everything checks out, it's a good deal IMO.

If it is just the barrel then you can get a replacement barrel for cheap. But if it comes with custom ported slide, then NO THANKS....
