yeah hes the owner now the prices arnt to high except for some consignment stuff he has but he also has his own machine shop so they also do alot of custom work and stuff like that

I just went there today (Gunrunners) for the first time and they have pretty much the best selection of long guns and accesories I've seen in southern CA. The guys working there were really nice too, very helpful and no judgements or attitudes and very happy to explain things. Prices are pretty decent too.

Turner's is a good place to go if you are looking for low prices and deals, its pretty much a hit or miss when it comes to customer service. I've been to 2 different Turners, the one in Signal hill has pretty bad customer service, the sales girls at the registers are rude and so is the sales manager at the gun counter. When I bought my pistol there I witnessed him chewing out my salesman for giving some guy a $5 discount a week ago. Turner's in pasadena is great, all the sales people there are super nice and so are all the managers, if you want to know about what you are buying, ask Bob, he's a really fun guy to talk to and pretty much a walking encyclopedia of gun knowledge.

Another place I've been to is Lock Stock and Barrel in San Gabriel, its a very small shop and I guess they have been in the area for about 50 years. Unfortunately the people there are all exceedingly rude. The gunsmith there is a snob who seems to think he's the authority on all firearms and if he doesn't like one it then it sucks, they also only sell american made long guns at somewhat high prices.

The last place I've been to in southern CA is Ammobros in cerritos, they don't have an FFL yet but they are expecting to get one sometime near the end of this year. They only sell ammo and accesories now but they have a decent selection and very reasonable prices on ammunition.

These are for PPT only since I haven't bought new guns except through a FFL in San Jose.

Montana Hawk in Rohnert Park/ Petaluma - $35 for PPT. They are not knowledgable about gun laws, was forced to buy one of their locks before they would start the paperwork, and then threatened to turn over my new handgun to the DOJ for destruction if I failed the background check. I don't recommend them

Diablo Valley Gun Works in Pleasant Hill - $35 for PPT + $10 dealer fee. They are a gunsmith and small gun store. The guys are old timers who are level headed and knowledgable about gun laws.

Big 5 - What can I say? Avoid at all times.

Maybe been asked before...but are there any so. cal FFL's who accept out of state auction type transfers without adding tax? (yes, i know that it is questionable accounting on the part of the FFL in some peoples opinion...no need to remind me )

Yep $35. is correct. However if both partys are not present, it becomes a dealer sale; ie: internet sales or transfers from another state.

well, thought I would post my experiences. Stone's Gun Shop on Main Street in Merced: Great people, great service, great collection of rifles and pistols for sale. Pistols ranging from P22s all the way to S&W .460 XVRs, rifles anything from .17 HMR carbines and .22 bolt actions up to a good collection of Mosins (looked like 91/30s). They also have a good selection of cases and other gun related supplies. My only gripe is that they need a larger store, because you have to be careful not to knock over cases when you are walking around.

Bad:

Gun Exchange in San Jose - last time I asked (some time ago), they had an extra "storage fee" for the 10 day wait. I've never transferred there, so it may have changed - check for yourself to be sure.

Reed's - $150 plus $30 transfer fee.

Kerley's - Transfer from another FFL - $150 + DROS (new), $120 + DROS (used)
Shipping to another FFL - $90

Bad? I think that's an unfair assessment.

Gun Exhange:

Private Party Transfer is $39. $4 storage fee.

FFL to FFL Transfer:
Incoming: $50 per item + DROS
Outbound: $50+shipping

All I have to say is:

3 month no interest layaway. Including Special Orders!

the max PPT fees allowed are 35 bucks, nothing more. Tell gun exchange to exchange their bad policy...or else :-)
