IIRC the 92f you could yank the slide off for disasembly. The 92fs supposedly fixed it so you couldn't do this...

The Italian ones can be lubed with a simple marinara?

Both the same as far as I know. The Italian ones might be a little smoother and have a better finish, at least that has been the case with the 92 FS ones.

Sorry Sheldon they are not the same. Below is a quote from the Beretta USA website.

"The difference between the Model 92F and the 92FS is the size of the hammer pin head. As a result of this dimensional difference, the Model 92FS has additional cuts to the slide and the left hand grip panel. "

The 92FS has a slide capture feature in the event the slide breaks. This was added after the U.S. Military had a couple of slides fracture and break from using +P+ ammunition. The 92F lacks this feature. The Italian made 92F that I owned also had a metal spring guide rod. The U.S. made 92FS that I purchased about 2 years ago has a plastic spring guide rod.

The plastic guide rods didn't always come on American 92FS. My American made 92FS Inox circa 1999 has a metal rod. My Elite2 purchased last year has a plastic one.

                    You watch too much TV?

I've never paid too much attention to the exact details between Italian & U.S. made 92s, I have never seen an Italian 92 with an integral rail though. The Italians have tended to be smoother shooters from my experience with 4-5 of them (and 25+ U.S. models) but that may be a mental bias from an Italian shooter.

Either way they've stopped making the U.S. made 92FS, and I wouldn't be surprised if they stop production on the Italian ones, but I don't believe they have yet?

I had a Italian beretta and it has a single dot on the front and a single dot on the rear sight unlike the more common single dot frotn and dual dot rear sight. Took a while to get used to it. I ended up giving it to my dad cause he liked it
