    Sig 357 Auto

Awsome. I was down at Los Altos Rod & Gun as I am almost every weekend.
There was a guy at a station just to the left of me. I'm thinking, this guy has some high power rounds coming out of his 9mm. I then picked up one of expended casing. A Sig 357. I was now noticing the groups he was maintaning at the 15 yd. Pretty tight. We started talkin about reloading of which he reloads these. The neck on these was fairly short. Which looked like a small rifle casing. Which to me, would take some time setting up a reloader, so as not splitting it. I know wrong section. But how much does anyone know about the Sig 357 Auto?. Is it proprietary to the Sigs? Does anyone have one? I think I will go down to Sportsmans Supply and ask as well.

I have a sig P229 Elite carry in 357 sig the caliber is not limited to just sig, its like a 9mm on super steriods. Bullets are not cheap at around $27 a box so for me im limited to how much i use the gun on the plus side with the sig p229 i can switch only the barrel out in the P229 for a 40 S&W barrel and now i have two guns in one no need to swap out the mags as they fit both calibers.

the 357 SIG is a .40 case necked down to hold a.355" bullet.

the classic loading uses a 125gr JHP to duplicate the 125gr JHP loading of the .357 Mag rounds...which was the definitive load for the caliber for LE use

I've shot it out of a 226, and that was surprisingly pleasant! I only shot at around 10 yards, but it seemed pretty accurate. Maybe it was me!

I also shot it out an USP compact, but that was kinda painful--I'm used to shooting 10mm out of Glock 20's and 29's too. It might be the checkering on the backstrap.

i love my sp 2340 in sig 357 and use the 40sw conversion barrel also.
the round has a nice recoil and smoother grouping then a 45 or 9 for me.

Haven't shot 'em myself, but on an off note, I noticed cases upon cases of the stuff at WalMart the other day. I inquired and the clerk said they had been there for ages.

So it sounds like it is two guns in one. It will shoot S&W .40 as well as the Sig .357. I understand you can get these in a 9mm as well. Can it be converted into a 9mm by a barrel conversion. or a .45 ACP?
I was considering getting my 2nd 1911, but now I'm going to take serious look at this Sig P229. Wo else makes em?

the 229 can be converted to shoot the 9mm round with a conversion barrel...but there might be feeding issues as the slide differs in weight from the 9mm 229.

the .45ACP round won't fit in the magwell or action of the 229

Ahhhhhhh ! Yes that makes sence. So looking at the specs and I gather it will load the S&W .40 ?

There is a lot of talk about 357sig in the Handgun section that you may want to check out!

                      a 229 in .40 or 357SIG will
                      1. handle either round with just a simple barrel change
                      2. handle the 9mm with a conversion barrel and mags...they'll rattle a bit
                      3. handle the .22lr with that conversion kit

a 229 in 9mm can not be converted to handle the .40 or 357SIG...besides the positioning of the firing pin, the slide is too light and the magwell too narrow for the .40/357SIG mags

Nothing much different than what's already out there...might as well get a more popular ie "cheaper" round to practice shooting.

                            Sig

I have a Glock 22 in .40. At the time I bought it, I also got a 9mm and .357 Sig conversion barrels for it from Wolf. I've heard that some folks need to change out or modify the extractor for it to run reliably, but mine eats all of them just fine.

The .357 and .40 magazines are identical and interchangable. You'll need different magazines to run 9mm.

The .357 is a cool round and noticeably faster down range.

                            Regards,

                            John
