What's the big deal about ammo?

I purchased some ammo (6 SA BP 7.62x51) and had them delivered to my work since the last time I had them delivered to my house they became MIAs.

My office is right next door to our receiving department so everything that comes in for me is directly delivered to me.

Now here's the trip, some people noticed the weight and the labels on the box and they immediately had this reaction,

" Wow that's a lot of ammo......, ..........you're crazy......., why do you need so much ammo?......
you're wasting your money......that's hella ammo....is that legal?

    WTF over?

Do you work at a gun shop? Or a place that manufactures anything gun related? The big deal about ammo... is that its ammo Its not like you had flowers or chocolates delivered....

The reaction you got im sure is normal for ANY place - assuming the majority of people you work with are not "gun people"

They'll receive the shipment for you and hold it until you pick it up for a small fee.

Neighbors are out of the question. I wouldn't want them to know that their neighbor is a "crazy gun toting guy". (Sad that I almost died protecting their rights )

I will check out some mailbox places around my area, I don't mind paying the fees for some peace of mind.

I recently picked up 500 rounds of 9mm winchester white box from my local walmart and noticed a few people looking at me like I was some nut job. The cashier said to me "you sure you got enough?". I just replied to him that if they had any more boxes left i would have bought those too.

Myself and 2 buddies shot a 3-gun match in Bakersfield and while there we went to the local Wal-mart to get 12 gauge (the wal-marts here don't sell ammo) anyway I pushed a cart out with 10 cases and we got a few looks too The two guys in line behind us were giving us a looking over so I asked them which way the mayor's office....I don't think that made them feel better.

yea, the general non-shooting populous doesn't understand how fast you can go through ammo. A leisurely trip to the range, i can easily burn through 300-400 rounds...

they think anything more than a single 50-round box is excessive...

I broke a shopping cart at K-Mart once.

I saw a screaming deal on .22lr so I bought it. All of it. The kid behind the counter didn't think he could just let me pay for the pallet and meet me at the loading dock, oh well.

Two full carts and one structural failure later I rolled up to the register.

The old lady behind me was giving me the ol' hairy eyeball. Until I leaned over and said "Pigeon problems." and then she cheered right up.

I had two full containers of Talon 50BMG (300rds) shipped to my office and nobody cared - of course, I tracked it by UPS and on the day it was on the truck for delivery, I waited at the service elevators for the UPS guy to arrive - I met up with him and his cart first, before our mail service ever had the chance to get to the packages - they were all at lunch. I signed for my two packagaes (which the UPS guy was cool with becasue we are in a secure building). I was so happy, I think I skipped away - with about 44 pounds of ammo in each hand, skipping was an amazing feet!!

So I never gave anyone the chance to even know what I had - I took them to my office, set them under my desk, and nobody knew otherwise - then took them home that night.

                      .

I got crap from my boss because I had a box of reloadable brass open on my desk. He doesn't care but he didn't want anyone else to see it. Top Brass had sent me wrong brass so I took it to work to ship it back through our shipping department. Its starting to make me uptight because others are so uptight about anything firearm related. I'm starting to be offended by knitting needles. They are way too dangerous for common people to be carrying around. I just don't feel safe in my workplace when broads are knitting on their lunch break.

Had 2000 rounds of 30.06 and 1000 rounds of .308 delivered to my place not too long ago. The UPS guy kept asking what country I was planning on invading.

Another time, a while back, I had 1500 rounds of .30 Carbine delivered to my old apartment. I got the days mixed up and UPS came when I was out of town, so they left the stuff with my land lady. I got a call from her about 5 seconds later on my cell asking "What the hell are you doing with explosives on my property???? Are you trying to get us all killed???", or something to that effect. Two weeks later, the woman and I took her to the range with us- now she's an avid shooter, member of the CMP and a regular range rat whenever I go shooting.
