How to make AR mag blocks for pennies

Okay so I posted up how i was bored and I made a mag block for my 10/20. I got emails and PM on how I did it so, I thought I should make a "how to" here.

Tools required:
Hammer
1.50"x0.75"x5" wood block
Hack saw/wood saw
Blade/chizzle
Screw driver
Ruler
Rivet tool/liquid steal etc


This mag block was done on a CP mag with orange anti-tilt follower. You may have to adjust to fit your particular mag.

1. Take the floor plate off with te screw driver:


2. Measure and make your block is correct for 10 rounds:


3. Cut to length:


4. Measure it to be around 3.75" long:


5. You will need to split the wood in half so using your chizzle or in this case a old knife I had and a hammer... Split it right in the center:

6. Placing the wood block exactly like shown in the picture so the spring will have a place to rest on:



7. Once it's in, place the flor plate and adjust the woodblock to ride along the plate like the second picture to prevent it from being at a angle causing the spring to not run as smooth:



8. Revit the drain hole or epoxy it to permanently seal it:


9. Once you done, check to see if you can fit exaclty 10. This mag fits 10.5 so it's good to go:


And there you have it folks! Simple and easy. I took me about 5 minutes for the project so hope it helps you save a little $$.

Cool. Id rather not destroy the 30 rounders i have now. But still pretty ingenuative.

Sweet! I have 3 30 rounders that were riveted wrong and only hold 8 rounds, I'll drill those out and do the wood block thing. Thanks man!

Rivet is needed to comply with the law, when making 10 round magazines from large capacity magazine parts. [PC 12020(c)(25)(A)]


Penal Code 12020
(c)(25) As used in this section, "large-capacity magazine" means any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds, but shall not be construed to include any of the following:
(A) A feeding device that has been permanently altered so that it cannot accommodate more than 10 rounds.
(B) A .22 caliber tube ammunition feeding device.
(C) A tubular magazine that is contained in a lever-action firearm.

^^ Not entirely true... you can also use epoxy on the base plate instead.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say, but if the baseplate is sealed and can't be removed that's considered permanent also.
