When does Burro Canyon stop checking for steel core?

I've got a lot of steel core stuff that is burning a hole in my.....ammocan?. When can I start bringing it to Burro Canyon without having to pass magnet check?

"Why is certain ammunition not allowed at certain times? How can I check to see if the ammunition is allowed?
Steel-jacketed and bi-metal ammunition is not allowed during the dry months of the year due to fire danger. However, we do allow this ammunition to be used during the wet season. The wet months vary from year to year and we will inform you of the start and finish of each season. You can check your ammunition for the presence of steel by touching a magnet to the bullet. Keep in mind that both tracer (orange tip) and steel-core (green tip) ammunition is never allowed. "

Not true. They were checking yesterday only because they didn't get much of the last set of rains we had. The range office said around mid November or sooner if they get a good rain.

Can you still buy steel core ammo nowadays? They were banned from importation several years ago. Or are you referring to the legally imported lead core steel cased ammo?

I doubt it's steel core more than it's bimetal jacketed

Steel core rifle ammo is still perfectly legal to import. The Feds have the authority to declare any ammo that "may be used in a handgun" to be handgun ammo. They have used this authority to declare 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 to be handgun ammunition for the purposes of steel core handgun ammo import and manufacture restrictions. But other rifle calibers like 30-06 and 7.62x54R are still legal to import with steel cores or hardened penetrator cores.

No it isn't. Wolf ammo imported from Russia has projectiles with a lead core and a copper washed steel jacket.

Forget Burro Canyon........ Go out to the desert north of Interstate 40. Pretty much anything goes out there.... Night shooting too. Just find an empty patch of desert and enjoy.

Yeah its a bit longer of a drive, but who cares now a days. This state stinks and it's the best we have. Plus you don't have to worry about anybody telling you to "stop" shooting when you're having fun "bump firing" your semi-auto rifles!!!!!

Elegante is right. I should have been specific in my statement. I assumed that we are discussing the x39 ammo.

bit late to the party.... they were allowing them during december during all the rains.

since it has started to warm up and dry up, i think burro may have stopped allowing it now, or at least soon. I suggest you call them and see.
