    Sharps 45-70 info

A fellow wants to give me a 'Pedersoli Sharps 45-70 Govt' in lieu of cash.
Tom Selleck used one similar to this in a movie but I know next to nothing about it as far as value or desireability, which is all I'm concerned with as I'd be selling it, or telling him to.

Anybody know more about it? What it would be worth, and how easy it would be to sell?

How much are you thinking of covering(paying) for it?

Screw the environment! The sooner we trash this place the sooner we will have the political will to explore space and conquer the known universe, spreading like locust we will plunder, crush new enemies, take their women and if we are lucky, we shall meet our fate on the battlefield.

I sold one here for $1000.00 .... Pedersoli is a real fine copy of the Sharps.

thanks for the replies so far

$1k is around the value I'm shooting for (no pun intended).

From the info thus far, it sounds like I may be better off to pass on this for now- it doesn't look like an easy flip for the amount I'm looking to get. Like I said, I'm not interested in it for the collectability or shootability. But if someone out there is, let me know. As it stands for me, the deal is on the table for the taking, but I'm only interested if I can turn the gun into cash (or tires/wheels for my Jeep).
If you're interested and want more info, send me a PM or email to sb643web at gmail dot com.

$1K is the retail value, which you will never get when you try to turn it into cash. A .45-70 will interest few shooters unless you offer it at a bargain. Offer $5-6 hundred with a clear conscience.

There are lots of different models, which all vary in value. The fancier looking ones are generally worth more.

I was looking a while back.

The MSRP runs from $1300ish -$2322k (Quigley model). It really depends on which one he is offering you and what shape it's in.

The old "buffalo" guns are popular for side matches in CAS and BP silhouette shooting.

A lot of the crazy demand for these abated a few years ago (Shiloh had 5 year wait for one of their's) as more companies began making/ importing them. It wouldn't be as easy to offload as say a G19, but for the right price somebody might grab it.

We need the model # to answer this correctly. Make sure it is NOT a Pedretti,

The retail value on a pedersoli starts at $900 for a bare no frills gun on average it's more like $1200 and sell for as much as $2700 also they have a huge following. but if you more into tactical and or handguns you would never know?

Tom Selleck used the .45-110. Big difference!

I was just passing on the info given to me. Maybe he meant it looks similar.

Anyway, thanks for all the help so far (& offers) I asked the owner for some more info a couple days ago and he got back to me today. Maybe this additional info will help flesh out a value.
For those that were interested in buying it, if I decide to accept the gun it won't be in CA until late November (currently in WY)- unless other arrangements are made.

This his his update, & I have asked him to forward some pictures as well:

The gun is a Sharps replica made by Pedersoli out of Italy. It is almost identical to this rifle here:

The differences between this gun and mine are that my gun has a checkered stock and foregrip, and mine also has a flip up style ladder sight on the barrel in front of the hammer (you can see the dovetail for it in the pictures of the rifle on the auction site) as well as a "Hooded" blade sight at the end of the barrel instead of a regular blade sight. Mine also has the "Vernier" flip up sight behind the hammer that you see on the rifle in the pics, as well as the double-set triggers. I believe the barrel length is 32 inches, but not sure, I can check on that if you need. I like to hunt elk and thought this would be a great rifle to hunt with. It is, but I have had the rifle for close to 3 years now and have not hunted 1 single time since I got it. The man I got it from was the original owner, and the gun has had less than 100 rounds shot through it. It is in mint condition and basically brand new. I would give it a 500 yard kill range with the Hornady ammo I have for it. It is the new generation of lever action ammo called LeveRevolution. It has increased the kill distance on Lever gun ammuntion because of the nylon ballistic tip that they introduced which gives the bullet better aerodynamics. I have 3 (I think) boxes of this new ammo, plus quite a few boxes of the old flat nosed style bullets and the matching RCBS reloading dies. All will go with the trade if we come to an agreement. If you need anymore info, or pictures of the actual gun let me know. It looks identical to the gun in the pics except for the differences I mentioned.
