    Front Sight 2-day rifle course

Just got back from Front Sight for their 2-day rifle course. Course was well run, safe and informative. Weather was hot and winds made it dusty. However, it was good to see so many people taking classes and enjoying their Second Amendment rights
I learned a valuable lesson on red dot sights and parallax. I know at close ranges you aim with the dot higher than where you want to hit to offset the parallax but it isn't so severe past 25 yards unless there's something between you and the target

On the tactical simulator I came around a bend and there's a target at about 30 yards I put the Eotech on it and fire- Nothing and I fire again. This time I notice a cloud of dust as I hit a small hummock about 10 feet in front of me.
raise the Eotech over the top of the target and fired and bingo.
    An embarrassing but informative moment...

If you have taken the 2 day class, I strongly suggest the 4 day class a a follow-up or the skill builder.

The 4 day class has the skills test and night shoot. Fun fun fun.

That's mechanical offset, not parallax. Offset is the distance between the bore and the sighting plane. On an AR this is about 2.5 inches so if you're shooting over a wall you may have a clear sight picture while the barrel is aimed into the wall.

I suspect you know this since you've been around a while, but for the benefit of others...parallax has more to do with the dot being slightly off target if you're not looking through the center of the optic.

I’m looking for some other people to take a class from David Acosta, a world respected executive protection specialist/operative. He has an introductory class (20 hours from 6pm to ~10pm Mon-Fri) he’s willing to run in the Irvine area.

It’s packed with great info including the basics of surveillance, counter surveillance, tracking, CQB, etc. I was able to sit in on one class; the info was great but we had a lot of fun, too (real James Bond type stuff that promote a definite skill set in personal protection). The intro class gets you set for the full academy training (~160hrs for full EP certification where you can start booking jobs).

Anyone who signs up with me I’ll also take to Front Sight for their 4-Day Defensive Handgun course for free near Las Vegas.

            Welcome to Calguns.

If you're organizing a class, announcing it in someone else's thread isn't going to get you great results. Create a new thread in the Training Class Announcements forum instead.

              Bingo! You are right!

I took the 2 & 4 day rifle courses many years ago (10+) and decided to tune-up the skills again
I really enjoy the tactical shotgun classes, though. They are a blast
