Armalite M15A2 lower on .22rimfire

I know that an Armalite lower is frowned upon for a centerfire rifle, but what is the legality of having one on a .22 rimfire upper?

OK / Not OK / One of those gray areas?

Your answer lies here, on page 2, in Appendix B, second line. It's not a gray area and it's not okay unless you possessed it legally and registered it prior to January 23, 2001. That receiver is designated an AW by name/model, no matter what upper may or may not be installed.

That's what I figured but I got to thinking that since the ban applies to centerfire guns and .22LR is not a centerfire, it might be in a gray area.

I'll just keep it out of state until either the capricious ban is overturned or time runs out.

there are multiple bans for AWs. One ban relates to certain centerfire rifles, but the "name" ban applies to all the listed semi-automatic rifles, centerfire or rimfire, it doesn't matter.
