Hmmm, questionable legality perhaps besides questionable usefulness.
Do note CA 50BMG law bans only 50BMG rifles, not handguns.
Mike Searson here - whom I trust esp on NFA-related laws - once commented (when I'd noted the above 50BMG legality for handguns) that 50BMG pistols were DD's (destructive devices) because 50cal is max legal non-NFA caliber for non-shotguns; handgun caliber legality for some reason is measured from lands, not grooves, while rifle legality is the opposite. So apparently a 50BMG handgun that has .503" lands is > .50" and is therefore a DD - even though its rifle kin isn't.
Mike may be able to chime in here w/confirmation...

I was built to show off their recoil dampener, look at the underside of the pistol.
They were approached at the SHOT Show by various groups telling them not to put it (the pistol) into production. If they did, all surplus .50 ammo would've been banned due to it having a steel core.50 BMG Shooters http://50-bmg.com/forum/index.phpComment
