    Worst PPT ever

Executive summary: 1 1/2 hours of excruciating pain at Bass Pro in Manteca.

Went there today to do a PPT. Because my buyer was swinging through my neighborhood today, it seemed like a good idea to do it at Bass Pro in Manteca because they are open on Sunday.

It started out when we had to check the gun in so they could walk it to the gun counter. The guy at the front was unfamiliar with guns and a bit haphazard in placing it on an angled desk. I was watching him and the gun worrying about it sliding off the desk and crashing to the ground and ruining my sale. He calls to the gun counter and nobody answers the phone. Gets on the radio, still no answer. Eventually, he got hold of somebody and off we went to the gun counter.

Once we got to the gun counter, we took a number and waited. They got to us fairly quickly and then the long, drawn out process started. The clerk was incredibly slow and wasn't familiar with the process. Bass Pro has a policy of filling out many forms, having them double checked by other employees (who were all busy with customers), and, in general, making it difficult for gun buyers. The clerk was nice and apologetic but it just dragged on forever. One nice thing for the buyer is they sell a gun lock for one cent with each transaction! Finally, we were done and off I went, hoping nothing goes wrong requiring me to return.

Lesson learned: never do a PPT at Bass Pro. I don't care if it is super convenient to do a PPT on a Sunday, it is not worth it. A PPT at Barnwood Arms takes about 15 minutes and the guys there are pleasant to deal with.
Check back later for a witty comment.

If you're in Manteca doing a PPT on a long gun, go to Big 5. As long as they're not super busy, they'll get you in and out pretty quick.

wow, I've been lucky enough to do several PPT's at different FFL's and never had them last longer than 20 minutes or so.

I really have never had a good experience buying anything gun related at Bass Pro.

Give Lee a call next transaction in Manteca. Works by appointment, but flexible. Usually has pretty good deals on ammo, too.
