Come all ye young fellas that handle a gun...

This is a Celtic tune that will impress upon you why you must ALWAYS follow the four rules, especially #4 (be sure of your target).

I have the CD that includes this song. When I listen to it, I frequently cry.

No complaints about the performance, but mixed feelings about the message the tale is conveying. Responsible firearm owners lament 'bad' gun stories but it's also saying there's a punishment for improper safety/discipline.

First I've heard of the tale, but found help here:

I didn't think "punishment" so much as "possible negative consequence."

Also, thanks for posting that page examining the ballad.

Thats Allyson Krauss isnt it? Pretty song. Wouldnt count it very moving though.
"And away to the hills, to the caves and the rocks. Here I own a usurper I'll couch with the fox. So tremble false whigs in the midst of your glee. For you've not seen the last of my bonnets and me"
Lyrics from the song "Bonnie Dundee"

I prefer the Peter, Paul & Mary version that I grew up listening to when my Mother and Father played it on the living room stereo. The lyrics are a little different too.

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.
