That map looks just like the one we use at work too. When we ship stuff to Texas, it's always 4 days, unless we do 2nd day air or something. I laugh when we send something next day air to somewhere where it would be impractical to send to by air, especially since its close enough that it would be guaranteed to be there in one day by ground anyway. So much for that extra $$. East bay to like Santa Rosa, next day air. Whatever, it's the customer who specifically wanted it and is willing to pay the extra charge that red sticker brings.

At work, we ship maybe a dozen packages a day, and the only time we ever have any kind of problem (ever) is in December. Other than about a 2% problem rate in December, it's 0% the rest of the time. I really can't stand USPS cause as far as I know you can't track a damn thing. I think we got a tracking number from USPS on something before, and you punch it in to the website and it'll just tell you it's out there somewhere, not delivered yet. Hell, I already knew that information from the phone call from the customer I just got.

My company despises UPS and only use them when a customer requests it... we've had tons of crushed boxes (with expensive computer equipment ruined, some forklift spearing through boxes and monitors), boxes that have been opened and stuff stolen out of them, and unreliable shipping times. We usually use FedEx. They aren't perfect and have had some issues, but nothing like what we experience with UPS. Of course everyones experience varies, obviously.

Just had a shippment, tracking said there was a delay by adverse weather conditions. I looked at online tracking and it sat in a wharehouse/sort facility for a whole day. Used to when packages hit that same facility I would have my items that day, now they just let them sit and send them out for delivery the next day. Note the facility isn't that far from my house.
It's better to have it, and not need it, then to need it, and not have it.

UPS employs a bunch of retarded butt clowns in my area. I've had 4 packages go missing, while FedEx packages from DirecTV and Dell show up on my doorstep with no problem. These might as well have been labeled "STEAL ME" because you can't mistake the company logos on the shipping boxes.

I know that for every UPS horror story, there's a matching FedEx and USPS story, but for me, UPS sucks.

FedEx I've never had a problem with, it's the poseur FedEx Ground I've had problems with in the past. I think the only complaint I have bout USPS is the package tracking feature on their website is rather lame, but I never lost a package through them.

UPS sucks *ss. I cannot tell you how many times they have failed to deliver or have tried to deliver my package at 2pm, at my home, during work hours, while I am not there. They leave that stupid tag on the door. It's like they are surprised that I am not home at 2pm on Wednesday.

Just leave it at the door people!

UPS delivered my package yesterday to god knows where... these companies are so worried about meeting profit expectations they hire incompetent people to deliver the packages.

I need to start requesting signature only deliveries on all my packages.

Today I have a Saturday delivery, hopefully FedEx can get it right.

I answer your question with personal expierence: YES, that is exactly what they do...

PS: you can sometimes call the depot and sweet talk them into letting you walk in and pick it up.

I have a friend that worked for Fedex in Memphis for years. I heard the stories first hand that made me realize they are just as screwed as UPS.

Like this one: Fedex delayed for four days, then lost 2 packages that contained items worth roughly $15k that were shipped from a California Fedex office to my friend @ Corporate in Memphis. Yes, they couldn't find their own Corporate Headquarters, so they ended up delivering them to a grocery store 10 miles away.

Or this: Same friend was expecting computers from Dell to fill 2 racks in the server room. They were shipped to Fedex on a Pallet from whoever Dell used. Once they got into the Fedex Warehouse for distribution to the correct department, they got the forklift treatment. That means, two of the system on the bottom of the pallet were completely pierced by the forks of the forklift. The funny thing is, they still delivered them to him like nothing was wrong.

Oh, and something like 80% of USPS Priority Mail is handled by UPS and Fedex, they are contracted by USPS to get the mail to the correct USPS sorting facility.

As for UPS ground, research "Logical Scan" and "Physical Scan", UPS' system is FUNKY. Just because it says arrived in Oakland, doesn't really mean it's there.. Or, if it is there and it's a "Logical Scan" that just means it's in a trailer in the yard, but it hasn't been unloaded yet, there may be 100 other trucks to be unloaded first.

These days I just try to buy from people that don't rape you for shipping. If the shipping is reasonable I upgrade if I'm in a hurry. Otherwise I just wait, or buy it local if the shipping is close to the same as local pricing. I know USPS weight rates for Priority Mail, and have a Fedex and UPS account and rate chart. If someone wants to make $$ on shipping, it better not be excessive or I shop elsewhere. For instance, I won't pay more than $5.15 for anything Priority Mail that is 1 pound or less, unless it's breakable. The boxes are free, so the $1 extra will cover any bubble wrap or label, but IMO that all should be factored into the price of the item.

                        No doubt.

Back in 2000 I had two TRD superchargers for my Tacoma stolen by UPS. Finally the Toyota Dealer in Texas that I ordered them from sent the third one in another plain box and I received it.

It seems that the big red letters that say "Toyota Parts TRD Super Charger" and the part number were a little too obvious to the warehouse jockeys along the way.
