I would say this but since it's not the size or style as the 23 I would suggest a G19. I prefer the 19 and I'm a go either 9mm or .45 type and skip over the .40. The Glock is nice but very different that the 1911 platform. You're more comparing Apples to...Giraffes. I've heard good things about the RI but would probably start with Springfield if you go the 1911 route. That's what I did and would do it again. A less flashy Springfield will also stay in your budget. Good luck. -Ben

if those were my choices i would go for a Glock. And I don't like Glocks. If your budget is 650 you should be able to find a XD45 for that price which would be my choice in a 45 if I were to get another 45 again.

i have seen hk usp's come up used in the marketplace here at your price point. that is what i would have to go with, since you opened it up.

what i think you ought to do, is eyeball them at a local range, and then rent them. see which one feels the best, shoots the best, and you just like the most. the pistol that groups well for you and puts a smile on your face, at your price point, is the one to get. imho. every hand is a little different.

I do like the Glock, but I like the XD better. XD40 sub or service would be my pick.

If you like the Glock, you owe it to yourself to at least check out the XD. My friend has a G19 and I have a 4" Service 9mm XD and both are very simmilar. 1911 grip angle and overall grip feel had me sold.

If you want a .45, the Glock 30 is pretty sweet.

With your budget of $650 you can buy most any Glock you want. And you can't go wrong with a Glock if that is what you want. If you want a 1911 $650 is a slim amount, but if you keep your eyes open you may run across a great deal like I did.
Picking up a Sig GSR in mint condition for $600.
