Hi guys i just bought a CZ p01. I was wondering what is a good ammo to use at the range for it and for home defense? I just bought 500 rounds of Remington UMC 9mm MC bullets from gander mountain. Wondering if those are okay? Thanks.

Good Ammo for CZ p01

Some people had problems(including myself) with CCI Blazer aluminum ammunition.
Some clam that 124gr 9mm ammos tend to hit the sweet spot for the P-01. I've tried Walmart 115gr. 100 rd pack, tried American Eagle 124gr and did not notice much difference. I had good results with Ruag 124gr ammunitions, but I attribute it to the ammunition since they are supposed of higher quality.Comment

Your question might get more answers in our Handgun Forum here but the UMC is fine practice ammo.
After those 500 rounds are used up your very stiff and gritty trigger might loosen up enough to shoot the more expensive stuff accurately. For defensive ammo give the Speer 124gr +p Gold Dots a try as well as Winchester Rangers in the same weight.__________________________________________________ _____________________________________

My P-01 actually fed everything BUT UMC had numerous FTF with several mags. I was getting failure to feed due to I believe inconsistent ammo length. If you go to the CZ forum there is a thread about UMC ammo having issues with QC and the bullets shorter in length and variances in the same box.
I never bought it again and my CZ runs flawless ever since. I had 3 different boxes of 50 packs of UMC at different times. I also had different ammo on hand after the first box to rule out ammo. ONLY the UMC gave me issues.
There are others that use it and never had an issue. Mine just did not like it at all.sigpic

hey everyone just wanted to update you guys on my cz p01 if anyone was curious. i used only about 100 rounds of the remington umc ammo and it shot well for about 50 rounds. then it jammed on the first round i chambered. and it did so more then once. so my friend tried it on his glock and it jammed in his as well. we figure out how to fix the feed problem by turning it a little sideways and racked it hard. not sure if it was cause my gun was dirty or just the ammo. will update more next time.Comment

My CZ SP-01 was very picky about ammo when I first got it. It would shoot Federal fine, PMC jammed a few times, UMC and reloads would jam frequently.
However, after ~700 rounds of break in, things loosened up and it then fed everything flawlessly.Comment

i have read in numerous forums that the ammo doesnt agree with my gun model. i have about 300 rounds left of UMC left to break in my gun. is it potentially bad for my cz p01 if i keep using the UMC ammo that feeds improperly? if it does feed sometimes?Comment

I also have read that 124 gn shoots better in CZ's than 115 gn. Having said that I have a new CZ 75b SA and Walmart's Federal Champion 9mm in 115. I also have 1000 115gn bullets to reload with. So it's gonna be a while before my CZ gets it's favorite meal.==================

If you've already found that ammo to not feed well in your gun, stop using it. Not because it will damage the gun so much, but because it's just a pain in the *** to keep dealing with jams and misfeeds. Just sell the ammo and buy a new brand.
Perhaps the CZ P-01 being an all metal pistol dislikes some ammo for some reason. I haven't had any problems through my polymer M&P9, and I usually don't hear about feeding problems in many other polymer guns (Glock, XD, etc). That kind of irks me because I wanted to but a CZ P-01 very soon as well.
I actually borrowed someones CZ SP-01, which is just the full sized model of this pistol and fired some CCI Blazer aluminum out of it. I only fired it single shot since we didn't have the magazine for the gun at the time, but it extracted just fine each time, but I don't know how well it would have chambered the next round without a magazine for it.
Just sell the UMC, and purchase a different FMJ brand for target practice. For home defense, do your research on a premium hollowpoint that works well in your particular model, purchase said ammo, and test it out. Choosing the right ammo for picky guns can be a painfully long process - it helps to read what other people have experienced to help you narrow down your choices.Comment

updating this thread in case anyone has a p01 or a CZ. shot 150 rounds of winchester and federal. no ftf. when i tried a mag with UMC in it. failure on the first round again. so i guess it doesnt like that ammo. put another 10 rounds of federal in the mag. ran smooth. anyone have issues with reloads or they were fine?Last edited by soulfresh; 11-29-2010, 11:47 PM.Comment
