I think it would be much better to buy a level III police riot shield to use as a defensive barrier in a bedroom situation. And it makes a cool conversation piece as well

We have all seen the vests online and at gunshows which don't cover much. Your chest and back are covered but thats it. I wonder how hard it would be to make a jacket out of kevlar. Maybe take some BDU's and sew a kevlar lining into it. Somthing you could slip on very fast in a SHTF situation. Or even make a blanket for your family to put over them in a firefight or hang it from a bedroom door as a sheild. Do they even sell kevlar in sheets?

They do (rolls, actually), but you would have to use your engineering skills to determine the weave pattern and thread orientation, thickness and reinforcement to be fully effective. Eventhough I know how to do a lay up, I sure don't know anything about sewing Kevlar.

There are a couple of "niche" manufacturers who do indeed make exactly what you are talking about, but only if you have the $$$ for it.

They can either custom design an article of clothing for you to your specs (ie- suit coat, trench coat, etc) or they also offer "off-the-rack" products.

Again, this tends to be VERY expensive. The people wearing the stuff have good resaon to own it and can definitely afford it.

hmm, for the riot shield, you could also use it as a foot rest or coffee table.

I had a chance to shoot at some last month , while back in Wisconsin. A friend of a friend had some from a job they were doing (court house, judges' bench/desks) It was pretty flexable, about an inch thick and didnt weigh that much 1'x4'.

From point blank the .40 and .45 wouldnt go though but you could see where it was hitting on the back side. I would have to guess that this stuff probably came in sheets.
