    John Moses Browning

Anybody see this timeline page at the Browning company site?

He was one busy dude. Great history reading here.

The man was a genius. All these years later and two of his babies still in use by the U.S. military - ma deuce and the 1911 (more limited, but still used by some folks).

And the Hi Power (although he didn't live to see it completed) ain't so bad, either.

      And the list goes on...

The "1892" Peacemaker was also known as the Potatoe Digger.

1917's and 1919's are still in use today as well as the BAR's in the private sector.

I went to the John Browning museum in Utah and they only had one small display on the 1911. It was amazing to see everything he and his family were involved in.

I saw a bumper sticker or a shirt that said "There is only one God...and John Moses Browning is his prophet". Sort of funny

The truly amazing thing about John M. Browning is that he had design ideas that cut across all platforms and he wasn't a one-trick pony. His designs for guns were each unique and each one was ingenious. He could've made a fortune just off the residuals of the 1919 had he licensed each one, but he settled for a modest flat fee and saved the nations millions. His Auto 5 design is still in use today. His .45 Colt and as he called it, improved action on the Hi Power are still around, as are the over-under shotgun, 1919, Ma Deuce, and countless other designs. When he died, there were ideas he still had in the drawing board stage, showing that even at the end of his life he was still creating. When I die and go to heaven, after the family reunion I'd like to see what creations he's come up with in the decades since he passed!

Well that's not quite right, Mikhail Kalashnikov is the prophet.
