remington purchase

Hi all. Anybody have a compelling (or other) reason to not purchase a remington 700 sps tactical in .308? I am pretty sure I am ordering one on monday.

I recently bought a Remington 700 SPS in .300 Win Mag and had problems with it. Apparently the chamber was too tight and the fired rounds were extremely difficult to extract. It was so bad it required a rubber mallet to tap the bolt back about a half an inch before it would open by hand. The shop I got it from was excellent and got me a replacement rifle, swapped the scope, boresighted it, etc. and I'm happy with the new one. They did say that mine was the second 700 to come back with the same problem, the other one was a .223. I own another 700 in 7mm-08 and it has always functioned flawlessly and the new .300 seems to be just as good. I've always been happy with Remington but it seems their quality control may be experiencing some issues.

How about questionable accuracy. The cheapo stocks on the std commercial guns really affects their accuracy. Look around for a 700 Police with the better stock. These are the same rifle, but with a much better stock. A 700P should easily shoot 3/4" groups or better with match ammo.

I had heard (read) elsewhere that the hogue stocks were pretty good. Not the case?

listen the houge stock is crap.... but its a good thing, A sps tactical is mearly a LTR without the flutes and in a crap stock but "$400 cheaper" so thats the route i went, spend the left over $$ on the stock that you want. but buying a stock is a must if you want accuracy. so even buying a stock you are noramlly 1-2 hundred less than a LTR!!!! AWSOME GUN AND YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!! may i ask where you will be getting it and how much?? I have a SPS tact in 308 in a bell & Carlson stock "favorite rifle"..... trust me

Outkast here in Pcola quoted me 579 for it, plus Remington has a $40 mail in rebate right now that will almost cover the tax on it. He hasnt ordered it yet though, I wanted to do some more research.

Before. At least he didnt say 579 out the door.....

With a possible move back to Cali, I dont want to get into the suppressor game, so I can do without the threaded barrel for now.

thats a good price you should really push that as the OTD price as i know wholesale, and he will still be comin out at the price.... thats a fair price to seller and buyer

I am going to see what I can do, but I didnt feel it was a bad price, knowing about the rebate and all. How bad is the Hogue? I have enough right now to get the rifle and get it up and running, but not a whole lot extra to change stuff. (COMNAVWIFPAC is controlling the budget right now so we can get some other stuff done too).

the hogue is not THAT bad, but you will want to replace it... i had mine 6months before replacing.... so you know it might just work for what you want.... But im tellin you as a dealer "that your not buyin from" that you will love the gun i own one
