    Handguns in the Grand Canyon

Anyone here taken a handgun into the Grand Canyon, wife and i are planning a road trip there soon and wanted a handgun in the car for the trip.

Just wondering if the ranges at the entrance ask you if you have a firearm on board.
Im not looking to get tagged/ observed by them.

Gun will be locked up in a case just as if i was going to the range.

You can ccw it if you wanted to, just not into any of the .gov buildings and not within 1000' of a school without a permit.

Indian land gets a little tricky
        Posted signs say no firearms

Not like your going to turn around and leave.....They didn't ask, I didn't offer.

Keep it safe and you should be fine.

Isn't the Grand Canyon a nat'l park? If so, they'll be pretty strict against any firearms.
So um... moon labia or something.

Grand Canyon... Arizona....A free state where LOC is legal. Do a search for Arizona firearms laws. National parks. That way you will know all the facts.

Sorry but no. A new law passed that makes national parks go with the state laws that they reside in. I.E. AZ state law applied to the grand canyon cause thats where the national park is.

PLUS AZ is a shall issue state for CCW's, so like I'm a CA resident with my AZ CCW permit, so in AZ unless otherwise specified (school zones, government buildings and private areas that prohibit me (i.e. certain restaurants and bars) I can carry.)

Has unlicensed concealed carry gone into effect in Arizona yet?

Oh, and stop asking for permission.

"Has unlicensed concealed carry gone into effect in Arizona yet?"

Yes, there was a delay until July 1st.
But it is in effect now.

Ok, I'm actually glad to hear this. But under these parameters, since unloaded open carry is legal in Ca. can you walk into Yosemite with a gun on your hip?

I'm also under the impression that you don't need a permit at all to ccw in Arizona.

Yes and yes. In fact in yosemite if its not classified as an incorporated area you MIGHT be able to do more than UOC....IDK tho.

Ok, just checked. Good news for gun rights, however, since it's still illegal to fire a gun in a nat'l park I don't see much point in having one with you. Some of this advice can get someone into trouble.

I don't think the OP was asking about target shooting in the Grand Canyon, but good looking out anyway. Plus I believe there is an exemption for self defense: a grizzly taken down with a 1911 comes to mind...
