Great Customer Service - Reseda Turner's

I've had some great customer service at Reseda Turner's

Rick - Thanks for helping me when I picked up my new SIG GSR 1911. Your total correct explanation of the gun, and appreciation of fine timepieces made the buying experience that much better!

Francisco (Frankie) - I got in to your store at quarter to nine and you stayed late to do paperwork on two rifles and didn't ONCE complain or get grumpy that we weren't done until 9:30! You even went above an beyond to call another store to fulfill my order AND give commission to Rick because he originally talked to me on the phone. Now thats a good loyal salesmen!

Martin (Marty) - Thanks for letting me ask you some stupid questions about rifles and letting me handle the M1A I bought along with that Mini 14 I also purchased. Thanks for being super helpful when I picked them up and suggesting the BETTER case to carry my M1A. Well worth the extra bucks. This gentleman made an additional $390 sale on a almost $3000 dual rifle purchase I DROS'ed 10 days earlier!

The two young women that work the front registers are very nice and friendly too.

Turner's Reseda gets my vote as customer service gun store in SFV!!

I like Marty too. I always try to get him to help me. I have found the customer service at Turners Reseda is much better than the other locations I have frequented.

why is it that whenever you see the weekly turners ad, it seems like half the stuff isn't available in the reseda store?

Some of the items they advertise you can't purchase in the City of Los Angeles.

I found this out when I asked if they carried Glock 30 mags. Apparently that gun and any mags for it are illegal to sell (but not own) in the city or suburbs of Los Angeles City, of which Reseda is.

I am guessing you are asking about those captions where it says "Not Available in Reseda"

            Yeah,

And I am not an employee either.

I've purchased some high dollar items there, but even before that I was always treated nicely. Somtimes it takes a while to get someone to help you, but that handy take a number machine keeps things in order which is a great idea.

I found the M1A I bought at Turner's for $1795 on Gunbroker, but after its all said and done it would have cost almost the same if I had bought it from that vendor then locally. I made it a point to tell the gentlemen helping me that I would rather pay the couple bucks more to keep a brick and mortar open then go mail order. Where else are you going to be able to handle the guns if it wasn't for Turners and the other stores?

I also had great customer service back in 2003 at Gun World in Burbank but thats another story.

The actual reasons are that the City of LA has a couple of bans that affect the Reseda store since it is in the city of LA boundaries.

First is the "Ultra-Compact Handgun" ban put in place by then councilman Mike Feuer (now a State Assembly member as of last fall). Part of this ban also bans the sale of any accessories specific to these "Ultra-Compact Handguns", even holsters. I believe the "Ultra-Compact Handgun" ban measurements are considered as anything less than 6 inches in length from muzzle crown to butt (horizontally parallel to the gun and not inline) and no less than 4.5 inches in height at any vertical measurement perpendicular to the slide (so pistol butt to any top part of gun but does not have to be inline). So you won't see Walther PPKs, S&W Model 60s, North American Arms Derringers, and Glock 26s/27s in their stores - not even by consignment - even if on the DOJ "approved list".

I was in council chambers the day Feuer was pushing this "Ultra-Compact Handgun" ordinance, and he kept using the stupid term "Pocket Rocket" for guns like the Glock 27. I couldn't help but let out a chuckle, as I figured the only likely threat Mr. Feuer would ever have to worry about over a "Pocket Rocket" would be the one his wife probably keeps in her purse to take care of business he is not able to address without proving his shortcomings.

The other ban is against sales of any handguns in .50 caliber (.50AE, 500 S&W, 50GI, 500 Linebaugh, etc.). So no BFRs or S&Ws in .500 S&W even though exempt from or on the DOJ "approved list".

Want to hear another crazy LA City one I learned recently? Neither you nor the store salesman can disassemble the gun for you to look at for inspection prior to purchase (as you might do on a used 1911 to check locking lugs) which includes both new AND consignment guns. This has something to do with fear of internal springs or parts shooting out and hitting people in the eye.

Last I heard, they did, or were considering, a ban on sales of any ammo labeled +P, ++P, Magnum, or anything labeled to indicate extra power or higher powder charges.

                  .

I live really close and I like the Turners Reseda store also. They can be a bit slow, so you have to be a bit patient with them, but once you know that, it's just fine.

I've heard that they are the last gun store in the City of LA (not including gun ranges). The City of LA has a lot of additional restrictions on firearms, Cali-gula mentioned a few. The one that got me was that in the City of LA you are only allowed 1 handgun purchase in 30 days REGARDLESS of whether or not it is a PPT, consignment or dealer sale. Again, this only affects Turners Reseda.

I keep posting this to warn others because I tried to do a PPT there, and we got all the way to the end of the process when the salesman overheard me and the other party talking about a handgun he had purchased the week before and we had to cancel the whole transaction and do it at another place because of this dumb law.

Not to mention fingerprinting when you buy ammo.

That doesn't happen in Burbank, Pasadena, etc.

That is good to hear. The problem I had w/ them before is a private transfer. We got there before they open and when they did was told that can't do it because they are busy and to come back in the afternoon.

+1 on the being fingerprinted on ammo purchases. I'm just not happy about my ammo buying habits / ammo calibers info being collected by Big Brother.

I thought FFL01's are obliged to do PPT on request. Isn't it one of the requirements to having an FFL01? I know gun stores only make a maximum of $10 on a PPT, and this amount is fixed by the DoJ to keep the cost of a PPT as low as possible, therefore people are more likely to do PPT's legally.

If I was turned away by Turners or any other store, I would be likely to threaten to write a letter to CADoJ that the gunstore was refusing to uphold there FFL obligations, just to see whether that would persuade them to make time to write up the PPT. After all, it's not only my wasted trip but that of the gun seller's too.

Often people doing PPT will pick up a box of ammo, cleaning supplies, gun case etc. to go with their new firearm purchase, so PPT's are not a complete loss for them, but instead they'd rather spend the time with a potential customer who's eyeing up a Socom 16 or Kimber Gold Match II. I know business is business, but if gun stores make it inconvenient/ difficult to do a PPT, there is always going to be a small number of people who will just say "F*** it!" And they'll go ahead and sell the gun anyway.

Life can make you do many things, even kiss a man with a runny nose.

Picked up my second rifle tonight and Marty helped me with it.

I printed out this thread and said I hope your boss likes a good internet thread about how you and the other guys really had awesome customer service.

Needless to say he was very thankful and happy, and mentioned "you know, this is really nice because all we hear about is the bad stuff"

I told him I agree, and can empathize being that I am in a customer service driven section of my industry.

Francisco remembered me and greeted me with a hearty "hello" and asked me how I was doing. I made conversation and asked him if he ever got that watch he was eyeing, a nice Rado he and I discussed a week prior.

I ended up picking up some .223 for the 14 another rifle case and some other stuff.

Bid everyone a good evening and I was on my way, another satisfied customer.

Whatever these guys and gals are doing, they are doing right because I am one of the hardest assed critics of customer support!

Cheers to the current staff I mentioned at Turner's Reseda.

Notice that the good service involved buying some guns, not doing PPt's. I live far from Reseda but have bought guns there, I received very poor service because they were good deals on used guns and one of the managerial types was trying to hold the guns for his friend and I caught him doing so. I had waited in line 25mins to purchase them when he tried to pull them away from me.

This is a common occurence it seems at Turners but I happend to have caught them at it 2,3 times. At least be discreet about it if you are doing it! There is a surplus store in San Pedro that also sells guns as well as I think some Big 5's in LA proper as is San Pedro that also sell long guns.

LAX range wants to have a signature for ammo too and they are Inglewood, I don't believe Inglewood is in LA proper. Is this an Inglewood law? I also know a pawnshop in Norwalk, definately not in LA proper that wants a copy of cdl for ammo purchases, owner policy there for sure. Turners Norwalk does not do this.
