Anything that is not on Federal Land. You can shoot on state land as long as your a 1/2 mile off the road. (I think that's right) Try Box Canyon in Desert Hot Springs Area. -
summer shooting in the desert on one of the hottest days of the year??? With an 11 yr old?

You said you don't like the crazy stuff at the range but it might be a teachable moment as well. Lytle Creek has covered firing line and not much crazy. I agree the desert will be hot this weekend.
