    Damn stupid law about DROS

So my birthday was a week ago, and I was planning on getting a 1911A1. Just so happens my license expires then, too. I had moved, so I went down to DMV and filled out the paperwork for a renewal and address change. They take a new photo, and give me a paper interim license.

Next stop, the local gun shop. Can't sell me anything until I get the new license. I have the old one, plus the paper interim, but for some stupid reason I am told my DROS will likely kick back until I get the new license. I tried another shop, and they told me the same damn thing. The DMV told me it would take 4-6 weeks to get the new license. DAMMIT.

WTF is that all about? That has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

This must have changed when they required the swipe of the mag strip on your license. 3 years ago I had DROSed a firearm with my old CA license and the paper interim one. You still need to provide another proof or residency like a water bill and or your auto reg.

Strange, I don't think they've ever swiped my license.

I tried getting a DROS done on my paper temp license, but they pointed to the bottom disclaimer about how it does not establish eligibility for.. yadda yadda yadda. Guess what's on my regular license?

I really don't see how the temp isn't valid for DROS. It's valid when the nice officer asks for your ID. It's valid to buy booze.

It shouldn't take 4-6 weeks, I think it took mine 2 at the most...

Funny, isn't it? The DMV doesn't ask for any proof of your address, takes all of 30 seconds (well, not including waiting in the DMV for four hours) to change.

I was transfered a firearm with nothing more than a US Passport and an interim license. I have since found out that it was illegal.

You must have a current, valid, ID card or driver's license. Sucks, but thats life.

With a US Passport, interem paper license, birth certificate, social security card, one has enough to get a job, but not buy a gun.
