Is is easy to fly into LAX with guns?

I am flying into LAX with 2 large guncases. I will be parking at one of the offsight lots. So I have to catch a shuttle. Has anybody ever done this and what is the best way to go about this? I hate LAX but that is the only flight I can get back. I usually fly into JOhn Wayne.

I am also curious how new airport security practices have impacted traveling with a firearm.

There is no difficulty whatsoever.
I am unaware of any changes to Federal regulations or airline policies regarding firearms since 2001.
Since they added/moved the baggage screening to the check-in area at many airports, you get that out of the way while you are present.
(my experience is based primarily on flying between O'Hare and LAX with pistols)

Yep. No one even blinks when flying INTO an airport woth a gun.

Should not be any trouble if you follow the rules posted on the airlines website and the TSA site. Print them off and take them with you.

Just remember, in LA guns are called "straps" so use the correct terminology when communicating with the LAX folks.

I flew with a handgun from LAX a couple weeks ago. Went up to the Air Alaska counter and told the guy I need to check in my bag and it contained an unloaded handgun locked in a hard shell case. He had me fill out a card that essentially said I am carrying an unloaded and locked up handgun and then told me to go to a security "area" where a lone guard was sitting in her chair, staring at the ceiling, and spinning around in circles in the chair. I walked up to her and told her I need to check this bag and that it contains a handgun. She took the bag and inspected it for no more than 5 minutes and cleared it.

It was very painless.
