    Fake can considered a shroud?

I want to get a fake can for one of my rifles. Is a fake can(the one that covers the barrel) considered a "shroud"?

    (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that
allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning his or her hand, except a slide
    that encloses the barrel.

    (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the
    pistol grip.
    (5) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more
    than 10 rounds.
    (6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
    (A) A folding or telescoping stock.
    (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon,
    thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
    (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
    (8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

    Pistol!! Pistol!!

The (C) is under (4)..... ie. unless you are having a semiautomatic pistol that have a "shroud". "Shroud" is not illegal for "rifles", and.... isn't all "handguards" "shrouds"?

PS. the fake can is hot too....

“assault weapon” also means any firearm that falls under one of the following
definitions pursuant to Penal Code section 12276.1:

    (C) A folding or telescoping stock.
    (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
    (E) A flash suppressor.
    (F) A forward pistol grip.
    (2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to
    accept more than 10 rounds.
    (3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.
    (4) A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and
    any one of the following:
    (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip,
    or silencer.
    (B) A second handgrip.
    (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that
allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning his or her hand, except a slide
    that encloses the barrel.

    (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the

I don't know about that. All I know is that a fake can is usually made of silicone and can be found following Joan Rivers wherever she goes.

A, B, C, D, apply to the Number 4 above them that says "semiautomatic pistol"

          WTF for?
You are asking for trouble and it only has negative effects on the usefullness of your rifle.

Because its legal and he wants to? Why should he have to justify it? I'm also curious about the alleged negative affects it has if I may ask.

Trouble?...What negative effects? It COVERS the barrel(theres nothing in front of the crown). I am NOT talking about the fake can that attaches to the front of the barrel.

off the top of my head:

                  The possible oud interpretation
The "hollow fake can" may still reduce noise and be classified as a silencer
The negative attention it will generate to whomever pocesses the rifle
The added weight and possibly length to the bbl that doesn't even add velocity or sight radius (all negatives, nothing to gain)
The weight hanging on the barrel can't help accuracy
It will probubly be a poorly made toy (what reputable mfgr makes these?)
It just screams "tactidork mall ninja that ought to stick to airsoft" (OK my opinion)

You don't need to justify anything, you can paint your rifle pink and put Hello Kitty stickers all over it for all I care. I am curious WHY you would add this to a rifle, it's gains you nothing and it's legality is questionable enough that you had to ask.

                    The possible oud interpretation Huh?

The "hollow fake can" may still reduce noise and be classified as a silencer He said the kind that goes back over the barrel not extended over the muzzle

The negative attention it will generate to whomever pocesses the rifle Kind of like owning a black rifle?

The added weight and length to the bbl that don't even add velocity or sight radius (all negatives, nothing to gain)Weight is probably comparable to many compensators and it goes back over the barrel and doesn't add length

The weight hanging off the barrel can't help accuracySee comment above

The fact that it sill be a poorly made toy (what reputable mfgr makes these?)
It just screams "tactidork mall ninja that ought to stick to airsoft" (OK my opinion) Kind of like most of the other accessories members here put on their black rifles but it also acts as a thread protector and gets rid of the flashider without adding the noise of a compensator

                    Nope, I don't own one.

1.) should have read "shroud" as in the OP's original question
2.) written before he speficifed which type of toy he wanted to add to his rifle
3.) NO, like the attention you get when it appears that you have a illegal class-2
4.) compensators do something mush more positive other than add weight, what will this do?
5.) meant to say "that useless weight" which may rattle, put pressure on the bbl, etc
6.) nope, not like a thread protector, more like a silly fake silencer.

I'm not trying to start some flame war, but I can't for the life of me understand WHY somebody would want to do this to a rifle. It makes less sense than painting it pink and adding Hellp Kitty stickers. WHY?

I guess for the same reason people want different brand lowers with the spider, pirate, infidel, etc. logos and why they paint their rifles desert camo, or OD and why they build with collapsible stocks and extra mag carriers, etc.

None of these things add a bit of extra reliability or performance to a rifle and some of them may hurt but they just like the look.

Having shot a whole host of muzzle brakes, I would want a fake can on my gripless build for two reasons.

                          1) It doesn't generate near as much blast and report. I find most of the muzzle brakes I sell add too much blast and report to shoot them and still have fun. The fake can was much more pleasant to shoot.

                          2) It looks cool. I think an upper with a fake can look cool.

If a cop comes up and wants to run you in because you have a metal shroud over your barrel that absolutely adds no length or sound dampening qualities to your rifle and this is completely obvious, you are going to jail anyway.

It would be like being concerned that you have a tow launcher on the side of your Bradley Fighting vehicle you stole and you don't want to get into any extra trouble because they might not freak out as much over the 25mm cannon.

You already have a evil black rifle, why not go the whole way!

                          Legally that is.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

I don't understand why they'd want to, either, but the way I look at it is:

                            It's his rifle.

                            It's legal.

And at the end of the day, I really don't care what he does with his rifle, even if it was illegal (well, short of shooting people, that is).

I'm sure I could look at your car and say many of the same things about it that you've said about fake cans on rifles. But why would I? Big deal.

Porsche 911's "Sport Exhaust" doesn't add ANYTHING to power or sporty-ness, it just.... make it LOUD.... why? It sounds cool!

My M4 without the can looks naked now...

I'll post some pic after dinner...

I *may* be asking for trouble... but... the day I decided to get an OLL, I'm asking for trouble already...

So, I believed... as long as it is legal... it is ALL GOOD... just like an OLL...

I like it! Ar Huh! Ar Huh! I like it!

                              I feel naked.....

Afterall, it is my own gun, and I like it that way..... one of the BEST thing about the AR-platform is its customizability (this is not a word.... I just make it up.......lol...)

As far as "what reputable mfgr makes these?" <- mine is made by Spike Tactical; the guys who made the ST-15 "Spider" Lower, and seemingly their quality is as good as Stag etc... unless u wanna call THIS low quality, and a toy! BTW, mine is NOT hollow, it is SOLID aluminum.

I just hand tight mine. It took quite a few turns to tighten, so I don't really worry about it backing all the way out. I do check it once in a while, maybe after my 50 rounds IPSC-stage....
