    Another M-16 kaboom

This happened to one of our Lt's during qualification a few months ago. It blew up on her first shot. She had cuts, bruises, and powder burns on her face and hand. I believe the cause was listed as barrel obstruction. possibly a cleaning patch is the rumor I heard. She has not requalified since the incident. I offered to let her shoot my AR but she doesnt want anything to do with guns right now.

    crappy cell phone pics.

A single cleaning patch could do that kind of damage?

      Holy crap.

M16 lowers don't cost more than AR15 lowers unless, you are talking about NFA transferable ones. LE and military can probably get them for about $50 each in volume.

                I assumed it was a LEA's weapon.

Air Force, I believe they just get a bunch of parts in a bin and assemble them into guns. They are used and abused. Some of them have forward assist uppers with a non forward assist bolts.

BINGO! Problem solved, I would never touch an old and unsafe M16.

I think the ones home station sends over to the sandbox and issues them there are slightly used. When I was there all 3 times, they looked clean and very lightly used, maybe I got lucky. As with the picture I attached, they mod-ed it to shoot burst instead of full auto.

Every time I qualified I checked the weapon very very carefully. She is an engineer if I remember right, probably knew nothing about guns other than what she learned in the classroom that morning. Heard she couldn't remember checking the barrel when they broke them down in the class.

Always inspect a firearm before using it
Replying to craigslist for casual encounters is like pokemon with STDs. Gotta catch em all
If Hell ever needed a operations manual all it would need is a copy of California's laws
                            .

Quite scary. I remember another time in the desert when I was cleaning my rifle at the security forces hut, an O was trying to make sure her pistol was clear. She had a hell of a time(with the mag) out trying to do a function check as well. Finally a SF guy had to help.
You woulda thunk that she would try and learn the ins and outs of their weapons before she deploys, even though there's a slim chance she would use it. Hell I admit the first time I deployed I really had no concept of my weapon operation, I just understood weapons safety really.
I just believe the AF should requal their people more often. When I got out I was Class C for weapons qual. That meant I qual-ed every 24 months I believe; I forgot.
