Is Nevada getting shaky with rifle shows? First Boontown now this. I know that California congressmen are trying to put the blame on Nevada for these criminals here with guns. Is this the result of the pressure being felt? I have no evidence of this it is just a question.

Naw. Resort "towns" like Orlando, Las Vegas and Atlantic City are always competing for large conventions and trade shows. They each try to out do each other with perks that will draw in tourist money.

Las Vegas is definitely designed to cater to large conventions and trade shows, but considering that a large percentage of people involved with firearms and related sports industries are based in the Eastern and central part of the country, conservative, religious and family oriented, Sin City may not be convenient or desirable.

Lots of big organizations alternate coasts for their conventions. This year Orlando, next year Vegas, the year after back to Orlando, and so on. No big deal.

Vegas is the best place for SHOT, hands down. Most vendors will tell you. Far more people will get on a plane to go to Vegas for a show than Orlando. Some vendors don't even go to Orlando, but this is dodgy as you lose your standing for booth space selection.

Generally, SHOT is a Vegas show, but every few years they would do it in New Orleans, to pander to the Easterners. But since Katrina, they have been substituting Orlando for New Orleans.

The only reason they are back in Orlando in 2009 is because the Sands management has its head up its *** and won't be ready in time for the show. Apparently the LVCC is already booked, or SHOT is staying away from there for some other reason.

So SHOT 2009 will be another four days of fielding questions from Bubbas.

I'm glad I didn't buy a ticket to Vegas yet.

                      From the article you posted:

The Venetian is opening their new tower in 2007 and from what I understand they're doing some major re-designing to their convention center area afterwards.

They're supposed to adjust their company business plan to cater to SHOT show exclusively? It's one convention and I doubt they're too upset when they are looking at the long term.
