Pepper Spray

Looking to get my fiance something to defend herself since we will be moving into an apartment complex (not by choice) and I may not always be with her. What brand(s) of pepper spray seem to work the best? Anything off the rack at Turners, or order some off line? I know they aren't created equal and some gotta have more punch then others. Google returns tons of different brands, but I'm looking for more of an opinoin from someone, or knows someone, that has had to used spray before.

I was just researching this the other day after seeing videos of morons pulling down small roads and getting a baseball bat out to take out 5 or 6 other guys. I figured pepper spray will be much better as a car option. I found out that locally, I can only carry 2.5oz max with me which I think is ridiculous. The police carry 4-5oz bottles most time so I guess it goes right along with the safe roster and the fact that they can be "safer" than we can. I digress

Fox labs and sabre red were supposed to be the hottest stuff out there and I personally liked the results better of the Fox Labs 5.3 version or the Mean Green as well. I am going to get a few so I can have one in each car and my motorcycle. Check out the videos of how fast the fox works in doubling a guy over compared to just about ANY other brand.

I was told it was a california thing by 2 different local agencies. I am still looking into it further about the ounce size that is limited by california. Really another bummer.

A 2.5oz container is the limit for the state, not just locally. That size container will give you a good 15-20 seconds of continuous spraying, which is plenty to take on several combatants.

Pepper spray will not incapacitate an attacker, though. If they are charging you, their momentum will carry over after they are sprayed, so spray and get out of the way. Plan on spraying an attacker and turning tail and running. Pepper spray can be fought through - it doesn't matter how hot it is - and it can be affected by the wind, so be aware of weather conditions when using it so you don't get hit with overspray.

I recommend picking up a container of inert training spray so you can practice aiming the stream (and get the stream, not a fog or foam). Find a willing training partner for this so you can get used to how the spray tracks.

I have a 1.47oz container of Defense Technologies MK-3 X2 stream for carry, and it is very hot. It is good for 10-12 seconds of spraying.

Just double-fist two of the legal sized containers, instead of getting nailed for an unlawful carry of oversize OC.
