Corrections Officer Accused Of Selling Assault Rifles
McFARLAND, Calif. -- A corrections department officer and a man were arrested after police said they were believed to have been illegally selling assault rifles.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, McFarland, Bakersfield and Delano Police Departments served a search warrant in the 800 Block of Price Street, in the City of McFarland.
Gang officers from the McFarland and Bakersfield Police Departments said they had been conducting a joint investigation involving the illegal sales, alteration and possession of assault rifles in both cities.
During this investigation, officers said they learned that assault rifles were altered and capable of firing as a fully automatic weapon. During the search warrant, officers arrested Jose Guadalupe Garcia, a resident of McFarland.
The information from the initial search warrant in McFarland lead officers to an additional location in Earlimart, Calif.
Deputies said they located another assault rifle, illegal magazines and a hand gun.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Department, McFarland and Delano Police Departments conducted a search of a residence in the 700 Block North La Primavera Street.
Officers found and arrested California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Officer Christian Rene Sanchez, a resident of Earlimart.
This investigation is ongoing, and other arrest and charges are anticipated.
Garcia was arrested on charges of possession and sale of an assault rifle, assault cartridges and conspiracy.
Sanchez was arrested on charges of possession and sale of an assault rifle, assault cartridges and conspiracy.
Garcia and Sanchez were booked into the City of Delano Police Department Jail Facility
