    Shooting on open land?

Are their places in California where you can drive out to land and go shooting that is not a range?

How many yards must you be from a road when you are shooting?

    Thank you.

Yes, there are public lands where you can go shooting

This question gets asked weekly, use this link and search for "BLM":

    Also look through here:

Order the BLM maps for all the areas you are interested in. The free to shoot areas are marked in yellow, the maps are ~$4 each. The rules vary a little bit per county.

I don't think you have to be any particular distance from a road, but I'm pretty sure you can't shoot from a road or across a road. There are distance limitations to building (150 yards away?)

You can go to your local forest service office and ask them, but I'm pretty sure you need to be something like 1000 yards away from any private property or road and you cant shoot across a water source. An exception would be if there was a hill between you and the road.

I believe it is actually 150 yards from any habitable structure or campground, not across any body of water or roadway, and not adjacent to any roadway.

Some are totally closed to plinking and some have restricted areas for plinking.
