Adding a Ranger Plate to PMAG 10/30

Is it legal in CA to remove the pin in the floor plate of a modified 10/30 PMag to add a ranger plate to the mag if the mag remains 10/30 without adding the pin back in mag?

You need to re-pin the mag.

      Why?

As long as it doesn't hold more than 10 rounds it's legal, que no?

Its supposed to be permanent ie epoxy or pin or similar. But with a little bit of elbow grease anything can be taken apart so...

So how permanent is a pin if I was able to remove it with no tools? How is permanent defined as it is applied to a magazine?

It isn't defined however the way I approach it is if I'm in court, do I want the DA able to take apart a mag I made in front of the jury without any tools? With epoxied floorplates, this is pretty easy since they don't stand up to physical shock very well and repeatedly striking or dropping the mag on the baseplate can make it possible to pop it off. It's why I switched from epoxy to roll pins as the pins need to be drilled out

If you are in CA it would be best to buy from MidwestPX. No Tax No Shipping for orders over $125.
