    Airsoft questions,

Hey fellow CG'ers. I was thinking about picking up some airsoft type equipment to use for simulations and CQB style drills. I'm not looking for competition grad crazy, but some stuff that mimics the regular weight and feel. Anybody out there already beat me to the idea and if so what direction can you point me in gear wise. Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks CG'ers.

Lots of people will give you crap for it but its a helluva good training tool. I don't know much about 'em myself but have used them a few times.

I was at a training where there were a few floating around. Never got my hands on one but seemed like it could be very useful. Sim rounds are to damn pricey haha. If anyone has info that would be great.

Try Airsoft Extreme. They have stores in Santa Clara and Sacramento, you can get your hands on some examples. I got into airsoft at one point looking for a less expensive way to provide force-on-force training for LEOs. I still keep a couple of gas blowback pistols to practice in my garage with.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Support Americans, try KWA products. I gotta eat too!

Our stuff is in use by groups all across America (in both professional handling, training, and in recreational airsoft).

See Guns&Ammo: Tactics, we have an honorable mention under the Gunsite article.

steel hawk airsoft in orange has a good selection of quality stuff.

classic army, KWA, some systema, rifles, pistols, mall ninja helmets and stuff.
they also do gunsmithing upgrades and repair. i purchased my KWA SR12 from them because its an american-based company (in pomona, i believe) good quality stuff that looks and feels as real as the AR15s in my safe.

the problem with airsoft is finding the right group of guys who are in it for the same goal you are. training and sim.

you will either find a good dedicated group of mil/LEO guys you can drill in a shoothouse with, or you will have a group of teenagers who were just bored and got airsoft guns. they shoot crappy gear, use hollywood tactics, and would never call themselves out if they were hit.

airsoft is much like anything else a person could enjoy. the more time you put into learning about it, getting the right gear, and playing with the right people, the better your outcome will be. there are huge airsoft events all around the world. some take place in mockup-towns or in large fields with hundreds of people. do your research, find a good skirmish area near you.

finding the right people to play with is harder than finding good gear.

LOL. i kept it pretty simple. its such a good gun out of the box. plus, i really was dis-enchanted with all the crap i had to do just to put a MIAD on there.

i just put the basics, an eotech, some KAC rail covers, harris bipod w/YHM adaptor, and a UTG vertical grip.

here's the simple loadout, without sling or bipod. my stag AR15 is in the lower left

                              (caution, ridiculously large picture)

its interesting how the rail marks are printed in odd numbers instead of even. (T13, T15, T17, etc)
