So, here she is...
Finally finished putting it back together about an hour ago. 4 coats of that pre-made amber Bullseye shellac (couldn't find the flakes readily enough). Took a while to strip off the old Soviet crap as I was giving it a good denatured alcohol rubdown, but then read a bunch of people attesting to Easy Off oven cleaner.
Two things about that stuff:
1. It works REALLY well for stripping off old Soviet shellac and sucking out cosmoline.
2. It DOES sting like a ***** when you let it get on your skin.
I also noticed my stove had some cooked in grease above the pilot light and it cleaned that off really well, too. Go figure!
Anyway, there are a couple of imperfections (my first time), but I'm EXTREMELY happy with how it turned out.
Just thought I'd share and use the opportunity to pat myself on the back with people who'd appreciate this more than my girlfriend apparently does.
