Is it my imagination that the .380's seem to be louder than other full size guns? Not revolvers but 9mm or similar. To me they have more of a "pop" and a little higher level of noise. Do other compacts have the same characteristics? Is it the compact size, or the pressure of the round, or completely my imagination?

Shorter barrels tend to be louder, all other things held equal. If you want an accurate side by side comparison you'd need a full size .380, perhaps the Beretta 84 as one example. It may be because most .380's are operated by "blow back". In other words the action has no form of any type of locking mechanism. As the round is fired the slide is free to move to the rear without any sort of mechanical delay.
That's why many .380's have very strong recoil springs.
