Surefire G2 LED question

I know this isn't a gun question but I didn't see a better section to post this question.

I ordered a Surefire G2 LED flashlight from the NRA store yesterday. It was on closeout for $50. The ad claimed it is an 80 Lumen light. Latter on I looked at the Surefire company site and it says the G2 LED is a 120 lumen light. Did I get and old model?
I guess it doesn't really matter, 80 is very bright. This is the first expensive (for me anyway) flashlight I've ever bought and I just want to know that I got the most for my money.
I'm a sucker for anything USA made! Its so rare to find anything made here that I feel compeled to buy one just to support the home team. I know there are other very good flashlights out there but they are all made in China.

My G2L is 80 lumens. Maybe the one on the Surefire website is specs for the latest gen?

Surefire recently upgraded many of their LEDs, including their X300/X400 lights and G2/6P series. It was a recent change, so it is technically an older model you ordered.

I have the 80 and unless you're trying to see things 50 yards away, it won't make much difference. Plus I prefer the softer hot spot on lower lumen lights so I don't accidentally blind myself on a white wall or something (although even the 80 can blind you!). I have some lights that are over 600 lumens but for anything close quarters, the 80 lumen is gtg. You shouldn't worry about your purchase. Different tools for different jobs.

Primary Arms has a new bulb for the G2 thats supposed to have an output of 120 lumens if you ever want to upgrade to that brightness level

I think the new 120 lumen model uses a Luxeon K2 LED. However, 80 vs. 120 lumens should not make much of a visible difference.

not to detract from SF because they make great stuff, but i've had great results with streamlight's polytac series. i have owned three and all are brighter (especially the HD) and less expensive than SF poly porducts. check em' out. problem these days is that there are so many good products to choose from.... dont you hate that.

There is a new KX type replacement head for the 2-cell series. The KX4-BKHA increases output to 120lumens, that comes standard on the G2 series now. (just saw that yesterday on the shelf for the first time.)

To the OP, you will not be disappointed with the 80 lumen G2, indoors, or in reasonable distance outdoors. It will illuminate a tree across the street, but it does start loosing effectiveness after about 25-30 yards.

For anything beyond that, I use my 250 or 500 lumen M6.

Even at 80 lumens, $50 for a Surefire is a pretty darn good deal. I would still be happy even knowing there is a updated 120 lumen model out there.

Just remember too, those Surefires are rated out front, instead of what the emitter produces.

Yep, they just recently upped the output on all of their LED lights. The rep told me there are kits out there but they changed a lot on these and there is no true conversion.
